FACULTY ADDS N W MEMBER Unlike the postwar year of 1919 when veterans returned from only one theater of war to serve on the Hollidaysburg faculty, the postwar years of 194647 brought veterans from the several theaters of warfare scattered all over the world. Three new faculty members and three former members composed the veteran hand at Hollidaysburg Senior High School. Emil Graf, a former member of the AntifAircraft Division of the Army, joined the staff as a teacher of problems of democracy. Mr. Graf served in Ireland, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Astor Ritter, the new physical education instructor for boys, served four years in the United States Navy. Most of his time in the service was spent in the Pacific Theater of war. Michael Beley, acting as inf dustrial arts instructor during the past year, also saw action in the Pacific Theater while in the Army Air Corps. The three former members who were in the service are Ralph Harden, Elliott Treese, and Miss Marian Helsel. the school nurse. With the Army Nurse Corps Miss Helsel saw active duty in England. Scotland, and France, and on leaves she visited Switzerland and Belgium. Mr. Harden hit Hawaii, Kwajalein. Eniwetok, Saipan, and Tokyo on his voyages with the Navy. Mr. Treese gave up his Army uniform for civilian clothes too soon to be sent out of the l'nited States. He was stationed in Texas and Qhio. Many stories were brought to the ears of the student body by these exservice people. These tales 14 helped the students to envisage the political and social conditions of the various other countries of the world. Postwar shifting brought four other new teachers here besides those already mentioned. joseph Gallagf her filled the vacancy createdas Howard Blake accepted a post at the University of Chicago early last fall. Mr. Gallagher teaches health and is the wrestling coach. Austin Bittle, a graduate of Dickinson College, teaches sophomore English and history in the place of Miss Helen Davis who now teaches world history. Miss Bonalyn Silknetter is the new adviser of the HfBurger and instructor of English, journalism, and public speaking. Miss Ruth jean Heasley of 'Zelienople entered the Riculty as teacher of Latin and French. This past year set the faculty off as sports enthusi' asts as they engaged in intramural volleyball and bowling. Norman Hoover was high scorer on the bowling team composed of Cecil Fox, Miss Charlotte W4ilkei', Astor Ritter, joseph Gallagher, and Emil Graf. ln the fall volleyball contests the men's faculty team outshone the boys' squads in two games by their skill and perseverence. The faculty participants were Mr. Chimente, Mr. Ritter, Mr. Bittle, Mr. Harden. Mr. Graff, and Mr. Treese. The first four members are school athletic supervisors. Due to inclement weather the annual fall getftof gether picnic was held in the school gymnasium on September 19. The faculty also held a banquet in the spring.
