The EAGLE soared high as he carried athletic, scholastic, and music banners for H.H.S. Beginning the year with a football season that carried our team to bi- district and ending it with the graduation of a senior class, one third of whom scored ninety or above scholastically, makes a memorable year. Add to that a sweepstakes band and an excellent record in lnterscholastic League literary events, and we realize that it truly was a great year. Those whose combined efforts helped to win the trophies pictured on this page should have ahappy sense of accomplishment. However, this book is dedi- cated not only to them, but to all students who from day to day accepted the challenge of daily assignments. They, too, have accomplished, and it is they who have the greatest respect for a school and a country which provides them with so many opportunities. May the winning spirit continue in Holliday High School! as ,. , -I ,l - In l 55:-L, ,Q as ,V ,, ' 532' 'f 11-R5 -Fife ' ' kiln I -vigw . , k,,, ., ss, . sag, - l M, 1--1 .fk,! After checking in we visited the Sea Arama where we saw fish being fed in the huge acquarium and enjoyed the skillful antics of trained porpoises. Lunch and a quick change to swim suits prepared us for the beach, but the beach was not prepared for us. The waves came rolling in, leaving no sand for the would-be sun bathers, and the heavy cloud cover brought rain, but who cared about getting wet? The rugged ones jumped waves and tried their hand at surfing. At night we were entertained by two Galveston disc jockeys in the Squarerigger Room of the Flagship and later had a swim party with more people going in than the ones who really planned to'?? Tuesday morning came too soon and plans for the beach, which remained much as it had been the preceding afternoon, were changed for a trip to Houston and tours of the San Jacinto Monument, the Battleship Texas, and the Astrodome. Returning to Galveston amid more moisture, we spent the afternoon leisurely and had a late dinner at Guido's, a swank sea food spot, Wednesday morning found us loaded on the bus and counted off. With Tiger at the wheel, we headed for San Marcos and the Aquarena. Here, for the first time, the sun greeted us as we rode the glass-bottomed boats and saw the famed under-water show, It was a pleasant interlude, and a short drive took us to the K Bar Family Resort Ranch on Lake Travis in time for supper. Meals at the ranch left a little to be desired for hungry senior boys, but activities such as swimming, dancing to juke box music, volleyball, and shuffleboard kept everyone busy until lights-out at 11:30. Did anyone go to bed ? However, sleep did come. Up again early Thursday morning, most of our group went on a galloping horseback ride and finished the day with the activities mentioned, plus fishing and - yes - sunbathing! A snack party in one of the boys' cabins late at night seems to be a well-remembered occasion. Friday was filled with the same activities, but in addition, some went canoeing and skiing. Mr. Coe went swimming in full western attire, along with three senior boys - also in western attire. A class meeting on the bus produced a unanimous decision to switch plans from an early Saturday morning departure to a dramatic 12:00 P.M, Friday night leave, so Tiger brought us safely home in time for a Saturday night date. 25 Valedictorian Cl-IRISTI COZART Ian Thorton and Jimmy Holmes Holliday High School Auditorium Processional .
