Kenneth Ford Coach Ford, you have been a true friend to us. But you have been more than a friend: you have helped us through the years, in football, in track, and in your classes. You have overlooked our forgetfulness, our care- lessness, and our lack of consideration. You have made us look within ourselves and laugh. You have pushed us farther along the road to maturity. Your calm resolution took away our anger at times and substituted under- standing. How can we thank a man who has done all this? We could have offered you a gift, but that seemed too meaningless for you. Instead, we chose to work many long hours to produce this yearbook as a lasting tri- bute to you. The H1966 Eagle is the only tangible embodying the intangible--our admiration. Therefore, we dedicate our yearbook, which is so all-important, to you, OUR COACH! ei ' L N1 Be X Ga Vx YB Nc ,Avi LGE D N0 , . The Eagles proved to be one of the top teams in the area with their pressure defense, fast break, good ball handling and sharp- shooting, The Eagles had a well balanced club with all boys ranging from 5'10 to 6'1. Mike Lowder, at 6'1, proved to be one of the toughest men on the defensive boards, Iay Franklin, a fine ball handler and rebounder, teamed with Mike and Charles Buller to make the boards very tough. Charles started off the season slow but came on strong as the season progressed, His fine shooting helped put the Eagles past Henrietta in two overtimes, Larry Slack and Bo Toner were our leading scorers with 306 and 307 points respectively, Both were outstanding in the backcourt and in setting up our offense, With their desire and hustle, Gary Whitehead and Pat Maxwell were two of the best sixth and seventh men that I have ever coached, Also, Charles Wylie, Jerry Inman, Jimmy Coe, and Bill Finnell added greatly to the Eagles' year of success, The Eagles started strong as they entered the Seymour Tournament with four wins. They lost the final game with Megarel and had to settle for second place, After a loss to Byers, they entered the Henrietta Tournament, but lost the first game with Petrolia, The Eagles fought back to meet Byers again in the Consolation Finals, Then came the Christmas Holidays with a few days' rest, Coming back from the holidays and a victory over Petrolia, the Eagles were in good spirits for the first Holliday Invitational Tournament, The Eagles trimmed Nocona, but the Midway 5 forced them to settle for third place over Archer City, The Eagles began their district play by beating Archer City, 57-42, Their second game was played at Henrietta and took two overtimes before the Eagle victory was determined, 49-47, In the second round at Archer City, the icy weather forced the game to be played on Saturday night and the Eagles were just as cold as the weather, They trailed by 18 points at intermission, With a so called pep talk , the boys came back to score 14 straight points before the Wildcats could find the basket, and went on to win 66-63, W, S, Thomas Fieldhouse was packed for the showdown with Henrietta but the Bearcats beat the Eagles in the last 5 seconds, 43-42 with two free throws, But a determined A. C. Team journeyed to Henrietta to beat them in an overtime to give the Holliday Eagles the Eastern Half title. With a tie in the Western Half, the Eagles faced a 13 day lay-off before they could meet Munday in a best-of- three-game play-off, They crossed the Brazos River to play the Moguls on their dust slick floor and led them until the last two minutes but were blown under, 60-51, With two days of good workouts, the Eagles were determined to play 32 rather than 30 minutes of good ball at home, With a lot of spirit the Eagles built a lead and held it until the last 28 seconds before the Moguls overtook them, With 5 seconds left and trailing by two, Holliday took a throw-in under their basket and scored, The Hero of the moment, Mike Lowder, was fouled and scored to give the Eagles the victory, 56-55, This forced the title into a third game to be played at Seymour, With a jam-packed gym the Eagles got off to a very, very slow start, scoring only 4 points in the first quarter to Munday's 20, Using a tough press defense, they began to fight desperately to overcome their opponents' 20 point lead in the last two minutes, This 45-43 victory gave the Eagles the District 11-A championship, With a lot of spirit after winning district, the Eagles journeyed to Jacksboro to face the Millsap Bulldogs in Bi- District play, Starting off cold, as usual, the Eagles fought back but had to settle for second, 64-52. This ended the 1965-66 season for the Eagles with a fine record of 20 wins and 9 losses, Uflur Qelglvls Qauuv Qhrnugh in ihv Qlinrhvs tu min ihv Diwstriri ll A Qrhbllllllillllghip From left to right: Front Row, Gilmore, Turner, Lucy, Price, Herndon Middle Row, Finnell, Aultman, lnrnan, Wylie, Marushia, Coe Back Row, Coach Enis, Whitehead, Toner, Franklin, Lowder, Buller, Slack, Mgr, Core MANAGER - TY GORE COACH BUD ENIS 1115541 f 2 r . is i - -f L ., M-Mme:-e -AA- A 5 F i 5 F , 1.2-NEW Qelpteli IIE , ,,:,ff,,fi cz: pwgwq L,gg:mf, ....
