SEPTEMBER August 31st found us going through the entire day's schedule with a football game against Bowie slated for the first Friday night, Sept. 4. The Eagles won this game as well as the next one against Valley View on September llth. Other September games were lost to Electra and Throckmorton by close scores. Classes elected officers and room mothers, and seniors began plans for the annual Western Week. OCTOBER With six weeks tests behind them, classes held Western Week dinners in support of queen nominees, seniors started the real western spirit with an assembly program, and Sheriff Dickie Noll and deputies Bobby Murdick and Robert Davis were able to maintain law and order during the week which ended with the big barbecue and the crowning of a senior, Miss Glenda Turner, as queen. NOVEMBER Our losing streak in football continued until the last game with Paducah, which again made us proud of the Eagles. The band, after giving many good half-time shows, entered the U.l.L. marching contest and received a I rating. Those six weeks tests again? The F.H.A. winter-wonderland banquet was a real treat, coming the last of November, and basketball season was just around the corner. DECEMBER Basketball practice games, preparations for Christmas parties, and shopping tours kept things humming while we anticipated the long Christmas holidays. JANUARY Although neither boys nor girls produced championship basketball teams, they won or lost by narrow margins and kept the crowds coming with their display of pluck and good sportsmanship. Isn't there any way to avoid those six weeks and mid-term tests? FEBRUARY With basketball season a thing of the past, February gave us the Athletic banquet and recognition of all athletes by the coaches. Basketball king Jay Franklin and queen Sue Ann Hunt exchanged gifts. What happened to that kiss? MARCH F.H.A. girls receiving degrees went to the Area meeting at Stephenville, U.l.L. literary contestants began their training, and both tennis and track teams were anxiously awaiting warmer days while they made good use of the new gym! APRIL Highlights of April were the Easter vacation, winning of the over-all Interscholastic League trophy, a district championship girls vollyball team and the band's I ranking in sight reading. Yes, there were six weeks tests, too! MAY The long awaited senior trip began May Qth. Three days at the Triple D Guest Ranch near Beaumont were topped off with a brief trip to New Orleans. The Junior-Senior Ban- quet at the Trade Winds was the ITIOSI beautiful ever and then came the rush and excitement of graduation. We must admit it was a memorable year, and --- oh yes, we didn't skip those six weeks tests and finals. - ' , ' 2 - f . 1 f il Wm 1 .wa , , , Wmxw-en. W Iezmzzgtxvm' M,..w,........ Several of them were active as class officers, musicians, athletes, or literary contestants in interscholastic League, yet they some- how found time to do daily assignments in such a superior way that they have been ranked scholastically in the top ten per cent of their classes. This is an honor which we think is second to none, as far as high school honors go, and one that deserves recognition by all of us. Other good students, along with these, really make a big contribution to the standards of Holliday High School, and they prove that modern youth can think clearly and can exceed in many areas at the same time. We offer our heartiest congratulations. JUNIOR HI? 1' aah .,,.
