femory T IS the year 1960 and a beaut1ful evemng 1n October Everywhere 1n the town of Holley are huge posters readlng Old Home Week ' Many days ago 1nv1tat1ons were sent to all former reslden urgmg them to attend and stressmg partlcularly th1s evemng when a wonderful entertamment IS to be g1ven All the talent for th1s program IS str1ctly home talent Every performer was at one txme a resxdent of th1s town and was graduated from our h1gh school The hour for the great event has arr1ved Every seat 1n the vast new aud1tor1um IS fllled and all are eagerly awa1t1ng the performance 1n wh1ch many dehghtful surpr1ses have been promlsed The platform IS a mass of beautlful flowers and autumn leaves and the walls are hung w1th garlands of p1ne and laurel It IS truly a f6StlV8 occaslon Seated 1n the audlence are many celebrltles As I look about me I see a number of my classmates There IS Howard Bartlett our k1nd hearted frlend who became very wealthy through w1se lnvestments and IS now a noted ph1lanthrop1st He attr1butes h1s success to h1s W1f6 and fmanclal treasurer Lou1se ower The ladles 1n the front seats are all so styl1shly and becom1ngly dressed that they arouse my cur1ous1ty I am told that thexr beautlful garments come from the very select not to say expenslve shop of Angellne G1fald1 who deslgns gowns for all the best dressed women 1n the country They are Ann Scharplng Wlfe of the notable draftsman Donald Ward and L1ll1an Moore flrst woman presldent of the R B I Seated near her IS Theodore Broekhulzen a real estate dealer who owns so much property that he has to keep a card lndex of lt 1n order to know lt hlmself Next to hlm lS Alv1n Rathbun famous Hollywood stage manager and Franc1s Halght h1s asslstant Seated at my s1de watchlng w1th mterest I see Florence Nenn1 d1gn1f1ed and haughty I ask about her and am told that she IS the head m1stress of a very fash1onable glrls school 1n Holley and has never mar r1ed although she has sultors mnumerable Standlng at the door look1ng for old frlends I f1nd Charles Lee edltor of the largest da1ly paper 1n the state w1th h1s famous g1rl reporter Dolores Surd1 Two people entermg rece1ve a warm receptlon from the commlttee at the door They are Dr W1ll1am Leydecker a famous surgeon 1n a large hospxtal and attractlve as ever Beverly W1ll1ams superlntendant of nurses 1n the same hospxtal qu1te fam1l1ar enough I can t tell who he IS Now I know who he IS' James Allen And what do you sup pose he IS? Remember how he used to love chemlstry and SCIBIICS7 He s turned h1s knowledge to good account and now he IS one of the world renowned sc1ent1sts workmg on the oxygen bomb A woman IS sketchlng the people as they come 1n and doxng It very well lndeed for I peep over her shoulder to see Of course you know who that 15 Yes It s Joan Leanard They say she has become qu1te famous as an lllustrator and also as the Wlfe of Eugene Pledmont well known pres1dent of the Holley Academy for Boys And now the enterta1nment IS to begm There IS a hushed expectancy The llghts m the audltorlum fade and the footl1ghts flash on Before the packed house appears a tall dlglllfled flgure who makes an eloquent address of welcome Some of the well turned phrases sound pleasmgly fam1l1ar I remember our famous class debator Fred Potter and wxth h1m IS h1s keenest pol1t1cal rlval Lorralne Cardlllo But f1rst he calls attent1on to the beautlful flowers and other decoratlons saymg that they were the g1ft of Betty Sanger now the leadmg 1nter1or decorator of the town and w1th her IS her very capable as slstant Barbara Gaylord The Judge announces that after the entertamment refreshments wxll be served through the courtesy of Mlss Pr1sc1lla Conn who IS the proprletor of the dellghtful Old Home Tea Room As he speaks the words my mouth waters for many txmes I have enyoyed del1c1ous home cooked meals prepared by M1ss Beverly Bowen Now the entertamment begms There IS gay mus1c Then on the darkened stage 1n the spotl1ght ap pears a da1nty fxgure My goodness' It s Gwen Preston who always sa1d she would be an acrobatlc dancer She certalnly kept her word for she glves us a wonderful performance Included 1n her act IS the ve rsatlle acrobatlc team of Lawrence Favello and R1chard Rocco Next comes a b1g surprlse today s Rudolph Valentmo of the screen Donald Rocco and w1th h1m IS the sensatlonal comedlan team Roland Rmas and Anthony Stlgllano On comes the famous trombon1st Rlchard Cardlllo who has just returned from h1s tour ln Europe Here s another mus1c m1nded fellow' Harrlson Sallsbury orgamst 1n a cxty church and 1nstructor at an mstxtute of organ mus1c And now I see Jason Wlght wlth a llttle book 1n h1s hand We all recogmze h1m at once as the au thor of those thr1ll1ng mystery storxes Lookmg stunmng 1n an elaborate evemng gown comes Mary Slracuse famed playwrxght w1th her personal secretary Dolores Hall Contlnued on Page 22 10 l . ,Q , ' . . . . 1 , 1 1. - 1 , 1 1 .ts ' 9 ' ' . - I I 1. , 1 1 4 1 1 , 1 - 1 1, 1 1 1 1 1 , ' ! 9 1 1 1 .1 , a , ' , . . . 3 - 1 1 1 1 , 1 ' 1 1 1 1 7 7 ' . . . . , . - .
