enlor Class Prophecy I'd always wanted to take a tour of the Un1ted States so 1n 1962 when my r1ch uncle d1ed leav1ng me h1s ent1re fortune I dec1ded to carry out my plans Early one mormng 1n June I boarded a plane for New York I not1ced that the stewardess looked very fam1l1ar Why It was none other than Donna J Azzal1no a member of the class of '52 of Hollandale H1gh School Donna recogn1zed me at once and as soon as she had all the passengers comfortably seated she came over and sat down by me After talk1ng for a Whlle I cont1nued on my Journey I took a tax1 to the Waldorf Astor1a where I was to spend the n1ght Upon arr1val I learned that Bruce Bollerud and h1s orchestra had a two weeks' engagement at the Waldorf and Bruce was really g1v1ng Harry James some tough compet1t1on Later that evenxng I dec1ded to hear Bruce and h1s orchestra because he was a member of the Hollandale Band a number of years ago Just as I was seated the orchestra be began to smg Later I managed to talk to Bruce and Glor1a Bruce told me he had marr1ed a g1rl from Hollandale and was ra1s1ng an or chestra of h1s own Glor1a was st1ll s1ngle and happy? Ar1s1ng qulte early the next mormng I headed for Washxngton D C where the f1rst th1ng I d1d was to v1s1t the cap1tol Upon enter1ng I almost ran 1nto Lo1s Kleppe who told me she was secretary to the Pres1dent who was unmarr1ed and her prospects of be1ng the f1rst lady was very good After congratulatmg her on her f1ne pos1t1on and w1sh1n her the best of luck I returned to my hotel I dec1ded I was really av1ng a wonderful trlp after meet1ng so many people I knew Later walk1ng down a busy street I looked up and saw a large Slgn It read 'Learn to Dance Waltz Foxtrot Samba .htterbug Rumba Or Anyth1ng You Deslre Ida1n McCarv1lle Instructor Could th1S be the Ida1n McCarv1lle who was a member of the class of '52 of Hollandale H1gh? Walk1ng 1nto th1S exclus1ve bu1ld1ng I looked around There out 1n the m1ddle of the floor was Ida1n teach1ng a boy to rumba After that she began to J1tterbug Never 1n my lrfe had I seen anyone dance so fast Ida1n s secretary 1nformed me that she had run Arthur Murray out of bus1ness Ida1n told me she always knew she was cut out to be a dancer but she was afra1d someone would step on her feet My next dest1nat1on was M1am1 Flor1da As I strolled along under the palm trees I heard the sound of mus1c See1ng a crowd of people I hurrled over to see what was go1ng on In the m1dst of the crowd stood a hula hula g1rl sway1ng back and forth keep1ng t1me w1th the mus1c I couldn't see her face very well but she was certa1nly do1ng a good Job Then I really got a surprlse because as she turned I saw Wx D71 I, aff' r 5 ak e bu V- ! I XXX is , , f , 3 Ulf l l1l!L:N9 If xxx emor Class History In September 1948 we became off1c1al members of Hollandale H1gh School by sufferlng through the long day of 1n1t1at1on After we had obeyed every W1Sh of the semors throughout the day we had our party 1n the evenlng We enjoyed the party very much after we had per formed our many stunts asslgned to us When we returned for our sophomore year we attended school 1n the Commumty Bu1ld1ng because our school had burned to the ground dur1ng the surnmer vacat1on Th1s year three new members Jo1ned our class They were Helen Palzk1ll Ida1n MCCBTVIIIC and Gerald1ne McG1nn1ty Off1cers elected were Pres1dent Bruce Bolle rud V1ce Pres1dent Maynard Swenson Secretary Treasurer Helen Palzk1ll Idaxn McCarv1lle and Ronald Doran were elected to serve on the Student Counc1l and Moya Marshall was chosen as Judge on the Student Court When we returned for our Junlor year we had one new member 1n our class Mar1on Volden Our off1cers were Pres1dent Ronald Doran V1ce Presldent Bruce Bollerud Secretary Treasurer Moya Marshall Student Counc1l Rep resentat1ve chosen was G1OI1a Retrutn Our class advlsor was Mr Nodolf On Apr1l 13th we put on our Junlor Class Play The Board1ng House Reach M1ss Schuh d1rected the play On Apr1l 20th the blg event of the day took place our Jumor Prom The Commumty Bu1ld1ng was decorated w1th palm trees and Hawa11an Scenes The theme was 'Hawanan Sunset Ronald Doran was K1ng and he chose Helen Palzk1ll to re1gn as h1s queen The mus 1C was furmshed bv Layton Bla1ne On September 4 1951 we returned for our f1nal year 1n Hollandale Hlgh School All members returned except Gera1d1ne McG1nn1ty Class off1cers elected were Bruce Pres1dent V1rg1n1a V1ce Presl dent and Mar1an Volden Secretary Treasurer Donna Jean was cho sen as sen1or representat1ve on the Student Counc1l and Moya Marshall as Pres1dent On October 19 we had our Homecommg We played Barneveld but w1thout success A dance was held 1n the evemng mus1c furn1shed by Ray Carson In December we p1cked out our announcements and name cards We also ordered caps and gowns On May 23 we end our happy school Years m I f N .1 ' . lt was none other than Helen Palzk1ll Helen told me she enjoyed her Job because lt kept her very actlve No doubt about that I purchased a car 1n M1am1 so I could drlve the rest of the way When I reached Texas I dec1ded to V1S1t one of the large ranches As I walked to the corral I saw a cowglrl sw1ng1ng her lasso and r1d1ng back and forth among the cattle I asked who she was and the ranch owner told me she was called 'P1stol Packmg Anderson Anderson the name sounded fam1l1ar and as I looked more closely Iknew1twas Helen She was dressed 1n r1d1ng breeches boots yellow Shlrt large hat and she rode a brown horse She carr1ed two large plstols and I could hear her yell1ng above all the no1se I later asked her how she l1ked her Job and she answered 'Ah love ut Pardner I stayed 1n Texas a few days and then started for Cal1forn1a When I got to San D1ego I headed for a hotel Just as I was about to go around a corner I heard someone yell1ng F1sh for sal F1sh And asl went around the corner I was slapped 1n the face w1th a b1g sl1mey f1sh There stood a fellow 1n greasy overalls w1th a pushcart full of soggy eyed f1sh I could hardly see the fellow s face because of h1s heavy beard Upon closer observat1on I recogmzed lt to be Maynard Swen son I asked h1m how busmess was and he replled F1ne lt keeps my fe busy catch1ng them That evemng I dec1ded to go to some of the nlght spots 1n San D1ego I was watchlng a floor show when I heard a vo1ce that seemed fam1l1ar Turmng around I looked d1rectly at a guy I thought was Ronn1e Doran He was wearlng an expenslve looklng Sult and on h1s flnger was alarge square cut dlamond There were three very pretty 1rls at h1s table I 1nqu1red about h1m and the wa1ter 1nformed me that t e gentleman was Ronald Doran a m1ll1ona1re from Texas who had made h1s fortune by d1scover1ng 011 on h1s land I dec1ded to go over to Ronn1e s table and talk to h1m I learned he was plannmg to marry one of the three g1rls but he hadn't dec1ded wh1ch one They were all wlllmg Early the next morn1ng I headed for Seattle Washlngton I had heard that Mar1an Volden was there so I dec1ded to look her up Walk 1ng down Seattle's bus1est streetl saw alarge 1mpress1ve looklng bu1ld g and from lt hung a s1gn whlch read 'Mar1an Volden PSyCh1atr1St' I entered her wa1t1ng room and could hear Mar1an try1ng to conv1nce a pat1ent that she could take h1s bra1n apart and put lt back together aga1n so xt would be as ood as new After the pat1ent stepped out of her of f1ce Mar1an th1n 1ng I was another pat1ent was surpr1sed when she recogn1zed me She looked very d1st1ngu1shed 1n her dark su1t So far Mar1an's career had been very successful but she sa1d some of her pat1ents left her wondermg 1f lt was her mmd or the1rs she should work on Reachmg P1erre South Dakota a few days later I not1ced some large s1gns advertmsmg a c1rcus Several people told me that the lady bareback r1der had an especlally good act , . . . 2 ' x.- - vu -- ' . . . ! , i . , O ' ' I . ll D 3 ' . , . e-- . ,,. . , . - .
