His hand does not relent- The body is gone. But this equestrian Has no power over the living. His cold hand cannot take Memories from our minds: A whwf of pipe smokeg A deep, quiet voice Trigger thoughts in the minal' And he lives again. The plans for a school Lie unfinished' Their planner taken Before his dream was fuhilled. But when the building Stands bq'ore us, Our thoughts must turn To the original planner. What is lm? At best it is a lonebf substitute: A memory, which becomes the man And never fades. And it allows us to Remember the man, His service and his dedication- For which we always will be grateful. Monica Smith . Clarence D. Moseman 41911-19665 The life of a soul on earth lasts beyond his departure. You will always feel that life touching yours, that voice speaking to you. He lives on in your life and in the lives of all others that knew him. -Angelo Patri Not everyone knew Mr. Moseman well. Unfortunately, in his job it wasn't easy to be close to all the students. As supervising principal of our high school, he had to spend many hours behind a desk, busy with the paper- work and worries of the business of the school system, when he would have enjoyed the chance to meet and talk with more of his students. Nevertheless, he found extra time to show his interest and faith in us. We remember him cheering at all our ball games, enjoying our musical concerts, following our scholastic endeavors. His office was open to all, whether students or teachers. His warm voice was always welcome to us over our P. A. system, often his low chuckle accompa- nied the announcements he made. We, the Class of 1967, hope that with our yearbook we will help keep alive the memory of a man who gave so much of himself for our education and growth. 1 I 1967 U 1 V' f ,X ' XpRv y X f' W 1 sX V :Biff 'ik XX E isa: is Q A gy' A V f 1 My - X M ml dz, 5 , v H , ' f , 5 1 'f1 3 'Q' V 2 was 4 MX ,WM- E ' Q ' ' I - Q 1 X ' is X X -1 Q X i ? But for us, the members of the Senior Class of 1967, this crisis becomes too real as we more and more become aware that very soon some of us will be viewing this situation from the rice paddles of Southeast Asia. Some of us, from necessity, must remain at home. Still, the reality of this war will be ever present. Those we love are there-those we know as classmates are there-and because we are Americans, we must all be there in actual presence or in patriotic conviction. ln a struggle that we must win, it becomes impossible for any of us to remain on the sidelines. The school bus we leave on in June may soon become a military transport. Some of us will be trading our football gear for a green uniform and a camouflaged helmet. The classroom will become a flight-deck training area, the gym class bruises, deeper and more savage wounds. lt's all too real, too close. Therefore, to show our support and recognition of their noble service, the Senior Class of 1967 proudly dedicates The 1967 Hollander to the United States Armed Forces now serving in Vietnam. r aw., .. Leslie King Celina Arantes A.F.S. To build an understanding and a mutual awareness of the different countries and cultures in the world is the purpose of the American Field Service. Through the exchange of high school students from all parts of the world, the A.F.S. is achieving this purpose. Selection is made and the best qualified candidate is sent to a foreign country. There he is not only a representative of his home country, but a member of a commu- nity and of a family. He becomes a part of the day to day life in his new home. Leslie King, Holland Patent's A.F.S. representative for the year of 1966, lived in the small town of Concordia in Argentina. Al- though she went to Concordia with only one and one half years of Spanish language background, she became quite fluent in the language by speaking it every day. She can now recognize and speak several Spanish dialects. In reference to her home life, Les is quoted as saying, lf I could have picked the family myself, l couldn't have done better than the Landes. The Landes are Leslie's Argentinian family. A.F.S. tries to match the student's personality and tastes with those of the family he'll live with. Then, for the next year the student lives, works, plays, and discusses his problems with his new family. By living as an Argentinian, Leslie received a view of life impos- sible to attain by any other means. Certainly, she has had the opportunity of a lifetime. Because of her outgoing personality, her eagerness to learn, and her spirit of always trying some- thing new, Les has been rewarded with countless unforgettable experiences which she will relate to us in Holland Patent Central School. My dream is to travel over all this world in order to know the differences of life and customs between people, and a little part of this dream was realized when the A.F.S. afforded me the wonderful opportunity to live for one year with the American people. Very happy and eager, I arrived here on August 2, 1966, think- ing of the wonderful experience that I would have. I was afraid because I didn't know what kind of life and people waited for me. But my fear was dissipated when the Harts, my American family in Prospect, received me warmly, in fact, everyone in my new community greeted me warmly. Naturally this welcome made my adjustment to a new country much easier. I shall never forget all the new experiences: my first camping trip, my first days in school and the confusion of moving from room to room, the senior play, choir, football cheers, basketball games, and all the other American high school activities. I should like to say some special words to my American teachers for the kind way they have helped me in my school work. Be- cause they gave me affection as well as knowledge, learning the language became much easier. I thank them very much. I am sure that I will never forget the many things that I learned about the life of the American people, and I hope that all of you learned as much about my country by being around me. After all, this is the real purpose of my visit here to your wonderful country. Thank you again. Sincerely, 5 ,az 6, M3,. Another contest was to begin And now his face cast off its grin. Approaching the mark, his limbs grew taut, Inside him fear and tension fought. Struggling hard to clear his mind, He tried to leave all thoughts behind. Tenaciously he held his post And thought now of what he loved most. C. Prevost The warning given, the pistol set: He exploded with the sound it let. His chest surged as he out-paced The other runners with whom he raced. Sprinting far ahead the pack, His legs sped him around the track. Coming home, the crowd cheered him For so easily gaining the win. But he, like athletes before, Knew not, for sure, what he did it for. And yet the thrill and mystery Would draw him back again to see. L. Utter Robert Hughes Track . - Row 1: R. Napoletano, R.
