Commercial Department Prepares Students 1 Can you interpret this? Only those who are con- nected with the shorthand department are able to translate this phrase. Shorthand, typewriting, and bookkeeping and other related subjects are the courses that make up the commercial department. The purpose of commercial courses is to acquaint the business major students with business related sub- iects. Miss Nelson strives hard to teach the trainee the ethics of shorthand while Mrs. Van Lente contin- ues her time trials. Students Master Art Of Foreign Languages Mrs. Brieve .. .5 The language department played an important role in high school life. Holland High offered a varied pro- gram of Latin, Spanish, French, and German. Under the capable supervision of Miss Mulder and Mrs. Brieve the Latin students managed to learn all their declensions and to decipher Caesar's writings and old Latin legends. Comment allez-vous auiourd'hui? These words have a familiar ring to all the French speaking students. Miss Dykhuizen fostered this spirit of French culture in Junior High. ' Dr. Ellert from Hope College taught German for the first time last year. Miss Wiskamp and Mrs. Lashua headed up the Dr. Ellert 5pUI1iSl'I department. Miss Dykhuizen Mrs. Miss Ede 5 . Lashua Miss Mulder Miss Wiskamp Foreign languages are put to good use by Spanish students as they try out their knowledge by talking to a member of the Mexican Boys' Choir. The choir performed this year in the Civic Music Concerts.
