VARSITY FOOTBALL Our season this year was climaxed by an impressive victory over favored Ottawa Hills 19- 14. However, our season's record was not so impressive, having won 5, lost 4, and tied 2. B111 HWS Ernie Post, Ted Van Zanden, Dale Shearer, XVcs Kuyers The bright spots of the season were a 7-K 7 tie with highly ranked Grand Haven and a 54-13 rout of Dowagiac. A hre in the equipment room just before the Dowagiac game destroyed the team's uniforms and they were forced to play in practice suitsg but this failed to destroy the hne spirit which the boys displayed all -V9 through the season. Our very fine coaching staff was again headed by Dale Shearer assisted by line coach Ernest Post and backheld coach Bill Hinga. Mr. Shearer has been at Holland High for five years and his career has been marked by a steady improvement in the caliber of football at Holland High as well as a growing enthusiasm among the boys. Co-captains this year were guard Ted Van Zanden and fullback Wes Kuyers. Both displayed sterling qualities of leadership and ability throughout the season. Page One Hundred Eleven
