Hours composed of minutes . . . minutes of study . . . minutes of dreaming. These hours and minutes are the heart-beat of our school days. As sophomores, time moves slowlyg this is our debut into high school life. As juniors the tempo increases as we become more in- volved in academic and social activities. The high point of our three years is the time spent as seniors. A year of work, play and racing the hands of time. There is so much to do, so much to learn and so little time . . . These activities are recorded on activity cards kept in Miss Reevert's room. It is a long tedious task and many thanks are due to these members who put in so much time and work. The purpose of this group is to learn the fundamentals of radio and do some broadcasting. Two pro- jects of this group were Topics for Teen Talk and The Little Theater. H Club For -the first time in recent years, a Var- sity Club was established. After the football season, under the guidance of Mr. Stupka, about fifty letter-winners joined the club. Their first project was to obtain cardinal and white letter sweaters for all members. Other projects were a dance and a basketball game between the faculty and intramural champions. It was the work of many weeks put into one glorious day. The day began with an assembly in which Queen Pat was crownedg at night our football game with Muskegon, after which a dance was held at the Literary Club. The only blue moment of the day was our loss to Muskegon. All these festivities put together made it a memorable day never to be for- gotten. Colorful costumes, fine acting, and an exceptional stage setting combined to make Seven Sisters a Senior Play of merit. The plot concerns a Hungarian family of seven girls and their widowed mother. Their escapades in matters of romance and intrigue are complicated further as Mitzi and Horkoy connive to get the older sisters married. Varsity Football Having one of the poorer seasons in recent years, Holland High's football team won only one game while losing seven and tying one. They defeated St. joseph 15-12 and tied Muskegon Heights O-O. Against Muskegon Heights, the Dutch played their best game of the year, making several goal-line stands. With fifty-seven boys trying out for the team in late August, only four of these were regulars from last year's team! In conference play, Holland finished last with one tie and four losses. In the middle of the season, Ned Stuits was added to the team as Assistant Coach. Tom Carey and Dan Hazebrook were our Co-Captains for this year while Carl Visscher and jerry Victor were elected Co-Captains for next season. Hazebrook was voted as the Most Valuable Player and was in one more than half of the tackles. Terry Burns also starred on defense. Carey injured his leg during the season but did some very excellent running the Hrst few games. Reserve Football Holland High's Reserve Football Team did not have too impressive a record this year. Their won and lost record was six losses and one tie. They tied a non-conference game with Fennville 6-6. The team was a little smaller than most of the recent Reserve teams. All boys who were out working hard every night received their Reserve letter at the end of the season. Bill Sandahl and jim Cook were elected Co-Captains of the team. This year ended the Little Dutch's play in conference. Varsity Basketball This year's ball club compiled one of the best records in the history of Holland High School. Their over-all record was sixteen wins and four losses. ' Participating in the Southwestern Conference for the last year, the Dutch finished third behind Kalamazoo and MuskegonAwinning seven and losing three tilts. Our team started the season off with four straight wins, but then was beaten by Kalamazoo in a close encounter, 42-40. A few games later, they knocked Muskegon from the unbeaten ranks. When tournament time Came along the 'lweissmenl' really caught fire! In the Regionals they took Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 69-51, and then upset mighty Kalamazoo, three times state - champs! By defeating Battle Creek, Holland copped the Regional crown! Treking to Grand Rapids for the quarter finals the team defeated favored Muskegon, 62-48, but in the semi-finals we lost a heart breaker to Highland Park in an overtime, 65-62. The next night Highland Park won the State Championship. Runner-up in the State contest, perhaps-Abut in most people's minds Holland had the best team!! . Ter Haar, B. Sandahl. Reserve Basketba l Coach Connell's reserve basketball team started slowly, losing five of their first six games, then turning around and winning eight out of their final nine. The 'iLittle Dutch took second place in the Southwestern Conference with a six-won, four-lost record, giving them an overall season's record of nine and six. Ron Israels paced the squad in the scoring column with 198 tallies. Dick Plagenhoef was second with 134, followed by Bob Van Dyke's 107. Paul Mack was elected honorary captain at the close of the sea- son. After the regular season, Israels and Van Dyke were called to the varsity and played during the tournaments. Most of these boys will be on the varsity next year and, judging from their performance this year, should do a very good job.
