Student Council This year it was the guiding hand of Mayor Don jacobusse which led the Council to new laurels in the field of student government. The most outstanding feature was the organization of the balcony into an eighty ward. Isn't it wonderful, sophomores, not to have to worry about home-roo.ms anymore? And it was our forty-first Council which finally persuaded The Board of Education to grant us permission to hold social dancing parties in the gym. Congratulations! At the beginning of the year aldermen sold H. H. S. book covers and made about 3400. Homecoming, Pull Together Push Ahead, was better than everg football programs were bigger and .more attractiveg the new basketball programs were a tremendous hitg Open House was very successfulg and the Armistice Day program most inspiring. We were all in a gay mood for the Christmas assembly-and loved every minute of it. Then there was a week that made the boys tremble and the girls dig deep in their pockets . . . Dutch Treat Week! Wasn't it gay? The Council followed the suggestion of many past mayors when it derived the sys- tem of ward-meetings. Now we can all truly feel that we are a part of our school. We're proud of you, Student Council of 1950-1951! You've proved to us just why you are rated one of the best student government organizations in the country! Police Board The Police Board, composed of the Chief-of-Police, the Prosecuting Attorney, Clerk, and jurors, kept themselves busy conducting the trials of fire-escape-walkers, smokers, and snow-ballers throughout the year. Witli Chief jimmy Maruri giving orders, the Board has again functioned smoothly and ethciently. Guidance Council The Guidance Council, organized this year, exists to improve the guidance program here at Holland High. Although they have been chiefly concerned with making plans for next year, the council did, at the request of the student body, inspire us to greater reverence and attention in chapel and at assemblies. A regular feature again this year was our chat with His Honor the Mayor. The clerk let us in on all the latest Council activities thru Council Notes, while Mare's Memos kept us in touch with the girls' gym. An interesting addition this year was the Rhythm Request Column.
