l l 4 V I jecficafian In honor of all those former graduates and teachers of Holland High now serving the United States in the armed forces we respectfully dedicate this Boomerang. lt is our sincere hope that when the day of peace dawns we may find them unharmed and ready to help build a world strong for peace, and help strengthen those ideals for which they are lighting today. It is our prayer that they may have the strength and courage, which is so typical of America and of Americans, in these trying times when they need them more than ever before.

ozewaz In our three years of high school we Seniors of the class of '44 have had experiences and memories we will never forget. In preparing the 1944 Boomerang we as a staff have tried to preserve as many of these memories as possible with the hope that in future years we can look back with fond memories on our high school days. MISS MINNIE K. SMITH 'A' 'k 'k 'k 'A' 'k 'lr Zin fllllvmnriam Miss MINNIE K. SMITH It was with deep regret and sorrow that the school board accepted the resig- nation of Miss Minnie K. Smith, former principal of junior High School, last spring. It was a loss beyond compare, to the Holland Public Schools when Miss Smith passed away in the first part of May, 1943, completing thirty-one years of service in the schools of Holland. Miss Smith's life was a life of service to the youth of Holland and to many others. She joined the Holland school system in 1912, as a teacher at Van Raalte School. In 1914 she joined the staff at East junior High School, and later became principal. In 1927 the present junior High School was built and Miss Smith served as principal of it until the date of her death. Miss Smith's first concern was for the students entrusted to her care. Our gains were her joys, and our losses were her sorrows. The memory of her untir- ing works and splendid achievements will always be remembered. Her ideals and accomplishments will always be a guiding light to those who have known her and have had the privilege of working with her and for her. 'A' 'A' 'A' i 'A' 4
