XXXIII Hunter Publishing Co ,ummagmw 1973 EIGHT ACRES dedicated to Eliza Bennett Heavey It is appropriate to commemorate Holland Hall's 50th anniversary by dedicating Eight Acres to Mrs. Eliza Bennett Heavey. Her leadership spans 25 years, half the schoolts history, and exemplifies the dedication through with Holland Hall has prospered. Mrs. Heavey came to Holland Hall as Headmistress in 1948. Under her guidance Holland Hall changed from a girls' boarding school to a strong co-educational day school. The Birmingham campus was expanded, and the school began its affiliation with the Episcopal Church. Her 13 years as Headmistress gave Holland Hall direction and stability. What she has meant to the school may be seen more impressively in what she has meant to her students. If one principle has guided her work in the classroom, it is a sincere respect for the student as a person. 'fHer very presence in the school has enhanced the atmosphere, Headmaster Herbert B. Moore stated. Seldom can one say about a school person what can be said about Eliza Heavey- that fac- ulty and parents, as well as students, have benefited from the privilege of watching her live. It is appropriate that Mrs. Heavey's retirement this year coincides with our celebration of the school's history. We believe her contribution to Holland Hall has not ended, for, in helping to shape the school's past, she has helped to build its future. 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration and Faculty Student body Sports Activities Graduation 73 10 22 86 116 144 IAC!
