As the mighty tree was once the tiny sapling, so the full grown man or woman was once a help- less babe. .And as the strength and growth of the tree is developed by its exposure and resistance to the elements, so the course of our lives and char- acter of our being is shaped and formed by our experiences, primarily those of formal education in our youth. Through the years H.C.H.S. has established the tradition of making education purposeful and mean- ingful for its students: in creating in them an ever greater awareness and understanding of man and his relation to nature, to the great family ot fellow men, and to his God, and in inculcating a love for and appreciation of our spiritual heritage thru the disci- plines of literature, history, art, music, and the like. The Faculty wishes you, the graduates of '60 the blessings of God. May you now help keep alive the tradition that has made H.C.H.S. what it is, yet ever praying and thanking God that our weaknesses may be apparent and we ever willing to overcome and correct them. Raymond Holwerda Principal Dear Graduates: Cordial felicitations upon your graduation from Holland Christian High School. May the Lord bless you richly. It was because of a staunch belief in the lines of the Psalter hymn which follows that our first Chris- tian school was opened in 1901. For He has commanded that what He has done Be passed IN TRADITION from father to son. The purpose, as stated in the Hrst constitution of the School Society, was the establishment of a school in which education would be given in conformity with the teaching of God's Word. What a blessed tradition is ours! Our school system is dedicated to the purpose of educating children in a positive Christian way. You have had your basic education in a Christ- centered school. May you ever be grateful for that privilege. May this tradition challenge you to sup- port Christian schools and cause you to .... gladly record The praises, the works, the might of the Lord .... Yours in Him, Bert P. Bos Superintendent of Schools

Evhiraiinn The beloved teacher to whom we wish to dedicate this annual is a man whose many years in Christian High have become a tradition, along with our school. A man whose patience, understanding, perseverance and hard work have left and will remain to leave a deep impression upon the lives with which he comes in contact. A man whose understanding of music has helped to enthrall large audiences with the renditions of great composers. He is a man whose unceasing help has made this volume of the Footprints possible.
