CONGRATULATIONS AND FAREWELL, CLASS OF '59 No doubt many of you often look back and remember vividly the day when you entered high school some four years ago, young, immature, scared. Now your graduation approaches and marks quite a milestone in the experience of each of you. You have made a measure of progress, else you would not be here today. You have grown in body, you have grown mentally, and, we trust, spiritually. What about four years hence? or ten? or twenty years? or the end of your days? What true progress will you have made then? The Holy Spirit often likens a Christian life to the games and contests of the ancient world. We do not enter this Christian life or race as a matter of our own' choosing or because of any natural ability or inclination. But rather because of a Divine, external choice and a corresponding heart response of faith in our crucified Lord Jesus Christ. Having professed our faith in Him, we are automatically entered in the race, but unlike our athletic games or contests, it is expected of Christians that they shall be Winners All. ls it fair to add that the expectation of a well-run race is increased in the case of those who have had the blessings of a Christian education and are Christian High graduates? u Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto jesus the author and perfecter of our faith ..... Wax not weary, fainting in your souls ..... All chast- ening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous, yet afterward it yieldeth peacable fruit of right- eousness. Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees, and make straight paths for your feet ..... Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctincation without which no man shall see the Lord .... fHebrews 12j Read this entire chapter of Hebrews. Be determined not to be entangled with unbelief or encumbering weights. Look unto jesus and find in Him sulhciency for everything and every need. Subject yourselves to the disciplining of God, ready with reverence and awe to offer service well-pleasing to Him. Direct yourself after holiness, righteous- ness, and sanctification - knowing that it is a lifetime pursuit. Be desirous of attaining unto the goal where will be God the judge and jesus our Lord with myriads of angels and the full gathering of the saints. A As a Faculty we are happy to have had a part in your training and a place in your fellowship. It is not easy to see you leave, but as you do, it is our earnest prayer that God will bless and endow you with resolute determination, rig- orous discipline, right direction and fervent desire in order that you the members of the Class of '59 may be Winners All in this race of life. Sincerely yours, Raymond Holwerda. MR. RAYMOND HOLWERDA, PRINCIPAL DR. BERT P. BOS, SUPERINTENDENT 11
