WAYNE K. DORNBUSH. During his stay at Hol- land Christian, he has taught general business, bookkeeping, and business mathematics and was the able sponsor of the Class of '54. We regret his departure but as he has left the teaching profession to enter business, we wish him God's richest blessing in his new vocation. Clfellleff. . We bid farewell to Miss JOSEPHINE D13 VRIES who is going to enter the very honorable profession of house- keeping. In her two years at H.C.H.S. Miss De Vries has taught Freshman and Sophomore English. Although none of the seniors have been in any of her classes we have come to think very highly of her from her presiding over the study halls and meeting her in the halls. We wish her God's blessings on her future. HS' A-.f z 2 E:.1 - ,Q 1, - -, .. Q- 1 Lqiwwi -: - . x Q . 4,3112 ,L 0l eLU0l The purpose of our Christian High School is to give the students a Christian education. This education is presented to the students from a Christian point of view and made clear through the light of the Word of God. It is a school in which the students are taught to love their fellowmen, to love their country, and to love and honor God. Our Christian High School teaches that education must be used to the glory of God and to teach the student to walk to please God. Now, as we leave the familiar halls of Holland Christian High and bid farewell to our Alma Mater, We realize that We are leaving behind us footprints in the sands of time. Looking to the future we see the darkness of uncertainty and we begin to realize the importance of a Christian education. We feel the need of protectiong for an armor which will shield us from uncertainty: therefore let us cast off this darkness and let us put on the armor of light leaving behind us footprints in the paths of righteousness. To the Class of 1952: The Board of Trustees of the Christian Schools of Holland offers you heartiest con- gratulations upon your successful completion of the course of study in Holland Christian High. Four years, you as students have worked together. Soon your ways will part in many directions. Where will they lead? Quite naturally, we're interested. Your parents have given sacriticially for your educa- tion, your instructors have imparted Christian knowledge with devotion of mind and heart, your Board members have spent many hours in planning how we might give you the very best in education. Now we all look and pray for rich dividends. Four years in our High School have wrought changes. There has been mental, physi- cal, social, and spiritual development. You are now ready to continue your studies or to take up the vocation of 'your choice. Wherever your path may lead in Godls providence, we sincerely hope that every young man and young woman will with the endowments given by God bring glory to Him and honor to the institution that has the love of our hearts. Rev. Oliver Breen, President, Board of Trustees. To the Graduates of 1952: Cordial congratulations upon your graduation. Although you have reached your immediate goal, new spheres of endeavor lie ahead for you, the Lord willing. Today, you are standing on the threshold of a world that is restless with fear and turmoil. You will need unfaltering courage and faith. We are told that the center verse in the Bible is the eighth verse of Psalm 118 in which we read, It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. What a wonderful message this verse contains! May these words of the Psalmist be your personal testimony. May you have complete confidence and trust in God through Jesus Christ our Lord as you proceed along life's way. Strive from day to day to give evidence of this conviction. Your actions, your words, your deeds, your consecrated lives must speak of the Savior you profess. God bless you one and all. Sincerely yours, Bert P. J. Kuiper. Student Council was organized four years ago for the purpose of maintaining Christian discipline, promote student participation in school activities, and create more co-operation between students and administration. The council was responsible for all-school skating parties, assemblies, checkroom at basketball games, bus transportation to outside games, student chapel once a week, and Turnabout Time. In the spring of each year four officers are elected from the student body. In the fall each homeroom elects its own senator. Each month we try to have one meeting during school hours, one night meeting, and an executive meeting. Here we discuss suggestions brought up by the students and problems and important issues which arise concerning the entire student body. Through the Student Council valuable training in assuming responsibilities of our democracy is received by the students. CHEERLEADERS Three organizations which often receive too little credit for their unending work are the Cheerleaders, Pep Band, and Athletic Sisters, To the cheerleaders we extend hearty thanks and congratulations for the great job they have done in arousing spirit at our games. They have proved a great help to the team and school spirit. as they went. With- out this group the games and pep meet- ings would not have been as successful. Congratulations must surely go to this organization and to its capable direc- tor, Mr. Vande Linde. Page Szxty-rive GOLF This usually unheralded sport is under the leadership of Mr. Holwercla. He has formed a group of capable boys and a schedule has been arranged. This team is also expected to be successful as it has been in the past. Absent-jack Borr. BASEBALL Under the able direction of Mr. Ham our baseball team is again being formed. Mr. Ham is building an inexperienced team around several veterans back from last year's squad. Up to date, our team has a rugged schedule of 10 games, several with strong class A schools. Reports from the baseball training camp have been favorable and a suc- cessful season should be had. Page Sixty-Sezfefz TENNIS Our tennis team this year is being built around a group of veteran players. Much new talent has also been found and a very successful season should be had. Mr. C. Pott is taking over the coaching duties and has already formed a strong 14-match schedule. Judging from the spirit and abilities of the team they should certainly be successful. TRACK A newcomer to our spring athletic activities this year is track. It has met the approval of many students and reports have been that our team is made up of a large group of very spirited boys. Under the able leadership of Mr. Elve these boys have had a success- ful season. We hope that this team will lay a firm foundation for the future of this sport at H.C.H.S. Page Sixty-Eight 1 The intramural program at our school is increasing greatly and the past year has been very successful. A well-organized schedule and tournament was played by the boys' basketball teams. This not only gave activity for those who participated but also provided entertainment for many other noon hour students. At the close of the basketball season a volleyball schedule and tournament was prepared which also proved interesting and advantageous to noon hour students. The girls also participated in noon hour sports on Tuesday and Thursday of each week. This also was a success.
