Volume XXII DALE WOLTERS ROGER DALE NYKAIVIP Editor-in-Chief B M The Greater the Difficulty, the More Glory in Surmounting It For thc past four years, we have been striving against difficulties, both great and small. Somehow, as we look back, those of lesser importance seem to fade away in our minds, but long will we remember the greater obstacles which have confronted our pathway of learning. These we remember chiefly because there is more glory or honor given to that which is harder to transcend than to that which is less diHicult. However, we have not surmounted our obstacles for our own glory or that our name might be praised. No, what we have done was done to the glory of God who Himself hath bestowed on us, His humble creatures, the talents we have tried to develop and use. Now, as we leave our Alma Mater, bidding farewell to teachers and fellow students, may we continue to keep in mind that all we do, must be done to the glory of Godis most Holy Name. Whether a task be great or small Seek no glory for thyself at all, He who gives strength to do the same Deserves all glory. Let us praise His Name! He taught in the Field of mathematics and his classes will not soon be forgotten. lt is with sincere feeling that we hid lVlr. Danistra farewell and hope for his success in future enterprises. 4 Mr. Marinus Pott has for six years served our school and been an inspiration to all the students in his classes. His insight into the deeper things of literature and life has helped many a stu- dent surmount the difficulties that confronted him. His sense of humor and understanding of students' problems will make him linger in our memories, For several years he has directed the senior play and has been very active as our class sponsor. As a tribute to his faithful service, vve, the Class of l95l. proudly dedicate to him this edition of the FOOTPRINTS. 5 f W, f W ,, fm Z ,, 'Z , 5 'WWE ' fm W yy' f eg f Q 7 FOOTPRINTS STAFF :liter srime bard work amd a lot ril' lime arid ellfirt, we are prriud to present tbe lfflil edition ffl Ilie Forilprihtx. As you depart and go your various ways, it is well to reflect on the blessings which have been yours during the past four years. Your Christian education has demanded the expenditure of vast energies on the part of your instructors, sacrificial giving by your parents, much planning by administrators. We hope and pray that the consecrated efforts toward your preparation for true living may prove to be a good investment. We are looking for spiritual dividends. As you leave this Christian institution, we shall be watching each of you. We desire to have your lives characterized by four specihc qualities. First, We want to see the attitude of Reverence. This is the quality that ought to be seen in young people Whose lives have been touched by the Spirit of Cod. You must have reverence for God, for His Christ, for His Church, for His Truth. A second virtue we long to see in you is Refinement. This is more than mere politeness or social grace. lt is that quality which shows that we have come under the refining influence of Iesus' personality. The apostle says, HYe have the mind of Christfl True refinement is Christ-likeness? The third quality we desire in you is the spirit of Reliance. Our strength to live the Christian life comes from lesus Christ. True sell-reliance is attained only through the prac- tice of God-reliance. You will be successful in your chosen task in life only when you look to Cfod for power. Finally, the spirit of Readiness ought to be seen in you. Christ calls us to service in all realms of life, No area may be left untouched by his presence. We must be ready to do his bidding in all domains of life. jesus was ready to give himself for you. Are you ready to dedicate your lite to Him? OLIVER BREEN, President 8 W 2 Words of Farewell Another school year has swiftly come to a close. To the graduating class the year 1951 is especially significant. You have reached another milestone in your lives. Sincere felicitations upon your graduation from Holland Christian High School. As your high school days have come to an end, it is Well that you remember with sincere gratitude the privileges which you were permitted to enjoy as students in a Christian high school. You should be especially thankful for the Christian parents who so often have sacri- ficed much to enable you to receive a Christian education. Above all you must be grateful to God. You have been reminded time and again of God's love and admonished to be Christ's disciples. As a token of gratitude, the Macedonian Christians 'Q . . . first gave their own selves to the Lord. You should not do less than that! Having done this you will never despair as you face what appears to be a dark future indeed. Having done this the Lord will be ever near to encourage When ready to surrender or when tempted to say Yes7' when Christian character demands a firm 'LNo,'. God bless you and keep you in His care now and always. BERT P. Bos, Superintendent 9 ,ff 1 Bible kg ' J 1 ,Z L' f JL , fy 71 K ff, 7 5 Cf fx ,w , ,, ,, f H f , if ,ef 1. The most important event for the Juniors is the sponsoring of the Junior-Senior Banquet which involves a great deal of expense. Selling supplies at the booth and milk and harheques to noon-hour pupils helped to pay for this highlight of the year. The class gave a minstrel program for their assembly. This class during the course of this year developed into a very active class, participating in many school functions. They have members in all three of the school's choirs, several in the band and a number of boys who participated in sports. Four of the class have taken part in the forensic contest and have attained a degree of success. During the next two years, if the members of this class continue in the future as they have in the past, they will accomplish many things worthy of praise.
