These halls of learning have become egideared to us and we regret to leave, however, with the knowledge here rgseived from God's Word, we will tread our future highways always strivinguto be of service to our fellow- nienkyes, but most of all to God. 0 Farewell to thee, dea1oChristian High Thy halls will e r be A place of happines and joy Recalled in ldieniory. Thy banners of Maroon and White As shining?lights appear, They synibolbe the Truth of God Whiyji we hold very dear. And so0we leave thy gateways Of earning, now to tread Upon orne unseen highway 0 Of service, still ahead, 0 0 A u 0 nw DDQ 0 0: -'f .T T .,.J ,Xu ,A For rriony yeorrs Mr, Hietbrink hos served our school ofnd the cduse ot Christian Educottion with enthusiotzrn ond devotion. He hos oiwoys loeen heorrtiiy interested in the wellore ot the students, ond his youthful zeori hors endeorred him to everyone. For three yeotrs he hots been sponsor ot our cioss ond ddvisor in its rriotny orctivities. As or tribute for his rnorny yeorrs ot efficient ond willing service, We, the Senior Cidss of 1948, proudly dediodte this edition ot the Footprints to Mr. Iofrnes Hietlorinkr I 1 APPR The richness and completeness of our stay at Holland Christian High School has not been determined by any one person, but rather by many persons Working together. The Eunice and Monica Aids have contributed most unselfishly of their time and money for our benefit. They have ever had our best interests in mind. Therefore to them We extend our truest gratitude. To Mr. William Pott, our financial agent, is also due a Word of thanks. l-lis task is to collect tuition and assist in other financial matters. Another person Who Will not soon be forgotten by any of us is our office girl, Miss Lucille Bouman. She has been ever Willing to help us in many different Ways. Therefore, We Wish to express our deep appreciation to her. And finally, our janitors, Mr. Westerhof and Mr. Dykstra, must also be included in our expression of gratitude. Theirs is the not-so-glorious task of keeping our building clean and neat. For all these many, thoughtful services, and for others too numerous to mention, we express to these people our heartiest, most sincere, thank you! 8 14 fueddage faam ffm game! Graduation, diplomas, graduation exercises! What does it all mean? The Board of Trustees of our Holland Christian Schools would like to leave this message particularly for the seniors. Cn commencement day you will receive your diplomas. What will that bit of paper or parchment mean for each of you? lt is often regarded by many as evidence that those who possess them are now educated. But in no sense can a Christian high school diploma mean that your education is now complete, Education is a life process. At most your diploma means that your education has begun. To loe educated is to attain unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ . lt means to strive to the end that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto every good work . The more nearly we approach that ideal, the more nearly are We truly educated. lt may be that you have gone through our Christian high school and received in the true sense no real education. During your high school years our school has held before you the deeper meaning of education and has tried to share it With you. We hope that each of you will continue that process of life called education. The School Board IU iivaleil As you may know, this word is the Latin for 'Cfood-bye . lt means that this is the last time that l can publicly address you, Seniors, as students of Holland Christian High School for by the time that you read these few lines your official connections with your high school will almost be severed. lt means that l am saying farewell to you as students. However, l hope to greet you again as members of the Alumni Association of Holland Christian High School. lust a word of admonition in parting! As you leave this school, you will have many occasions to seek advice. Only the foolish believe that they can go through life, meeting its varied problems successfully and finding the solutions for difficulties without draw- ing upon the accumulated experience of others. Where should you go for the right kind of advice? We need to go to the Source of wisdom if we want good advice. The only reliable Counselor is GOD. His vision is not limited like ours, He sees beyond today and tomorrow, Hefjudges people and things in the light of eternity. God speaks in plain language to all who care to listen. Remember the words of Eli to Samuel when he said ......, if He call thee, thou shalt say, Speak, Lord, for Thy servent hearethf May you never forget to go to HIM for counsel at all times for He can supply all your needs for time and eternity. Their ability is shown by their large representation in extra-curricular activities. Twenty-tour are choir members, and eighteen belong to the band. Athletically, the class is also Well represented. Four members are on the varsity basketball team, and two are reserves. To prove that the luniors are an industrious group, mention must be made ot their unique Way ot earning money to pay tor the Iunior-Senior banquet. lnstead ot giving a play, they have earned their money the hard Way, by selling Christmas tree ornaments and personalized stationery, by managing the school supplies booth, and by distributing milk to the students during lunch hour. Highlights ot the year were the Thanksgiving assembly, and a hard times party. Last but by no means least, the Iunior sponsors must be thanked tor all they have contributed toward making the lunior class one ot which our school can be proud. uniors- - -- - - - 26 Martha Blystra Charles Aarderna Arloa Arencls Donald Baker Barbara Bazuin Ruth Beukema Connie Boersrna Elaine Boeve Faith Bos Marilyn Bos Charlotte Bournan Paul Boven Margie Brink Corrine Cnossen Bernice De Haan lerorne Deters Donald De Vries Eleanor De Vries Peter De Vries Arlene De Vlfeeri lack Dykerna Lorr :ine Dyflieiii Richard Dykerna Bath Dykstra Muriel Eiterloeek Bzther Eferse Gordon Cvrevengoe Flo' a, Heersjolnk A1 'K X .. 7' 4 ' el - aoioree nee,C1e.A: George Hoekstra Arlene Hoagland Harriet lalving Shirley Iipping Dorothy Kaashoelc Donald Kiel 'x X sf7W W ' L, ,. , ,M f Muff ii' My LZ, i ff lm igyg , ,f if 2 lg 4 X ,f f 1 ff!! fx., r V,-,V , Z 5, Ef f if ' A 7, Www trt: KQV? The timid treshmen who entered Christian I-ligh last year have during the course of this year developed into a very active class, participating in many school functions. They have twenty-three members in the Senior Choir, thir- teen in the Iunior Choir, several in the band, a number ot boys who partici- pated in sports, and several who took part in the forensic contest. There is one club, the Biology Club, which is composed entirely of this class. With two years to go, the Sophomores have abundant opportunity to make an enviable reputation for our school and for themselves. To date, the total enrollment numbers one hundred and titty members. These students hail from Holland, and adjoining towns. This class not only has the largest enrollment in school, but it also proms ises to be a group that is determined to make good in H. C. H. S. The patriotic assembly sponsored by this class in February, gave evidence of much talent. This year, the members added zest to basketball, choir, band, and social activities. The Varsity Basketball squad has finished a successful season with a record of twelve wins and seven losses. During the regular season the record shows eleven wins and six losses. ln the Tournament we won one, and lost one, At the end of the first semester, three members of the team had cam- pleted their four years of high school, and were ineligible for further competi- tion. They are lunior Bremer, Kon Marcus, and Bill Mulder. We are sorry that these boys couldn't complete the season with the team, ln the District Tournament, South Haven defeated us by a margin of two points, All in all, the team had an excellent record, and Christian High can be proud of them. To our able coach, Mr, Art Tuls, we extend our congratulations. lt was through his capable leadership that we were able to achieve such an excel- lent record. Varsity H. C. H.
