Clarie Knoll is running for the governorship this year, while Lloyd Wolters stands a good chance of making the Senate. His past career speaks well for himg with Ruth De Haan -his former secretary and present helper-aiding him, the future is promising. Speaking of secretaries, Dort Overbeek is running the financial and secretarial end of the delivery service run by Earl and Jay. Bea Koetsier told me the other day that while she was at Interlochen fBea was director there this yearj she ran into Bill Haak. Bill was vacationing near there, but he told her he's busy working as a civil engineer in the upper peninsula. Really? So Saramae is doing research on musical therapy. I knew she wanted to. She's teaching at Vassar? Why Max is head nurse at the same place. Did you know Ellie is the athletic director there? That reminds me, Bob Altena is coach at the University of Michigan. Gene's team Qfrom Purduej gave Bob's men some pretty keen competition this past basketball season. Bob planned on settling in Hudsonville, but his work at the University makes that impractical. Of course, with all the celery raisers like Shirley Dreyer and Caroline doing such a large business in that vicinity, the housing situation is rather acute. Dale Alberda's trucking firm is kept quite busy by them, so much in fact, that he's had to hire several girls to run his office. Marge Schuitema and Rae Schut aptly fill the requirements and are doing an excellent job. Lenora and Ruthie Bosscher decided to situate close to their home area. The Cutlerville Institution has benefited by having those two trained, registered nurses on dutyg Betty has joined them of late. john Naber has proved himself an excellent surgeong he holds the position of chief surgeon in a large hospital in New York where, by the way, Elaine is teaching dramatics. I see john Slenk has returned from his buyer's trip to California. He's the traveling partner of the ownership of the exclusive men's shop set up by Kearny and himself. They have an excellent drawing card in the form of a barbershop quartet, who, I am told, breaks into song and perfect harmony without any previous notice. The quartet is made up of four of the clerks, two of whom are Bob Kraker and Gary. Con Boeve models men's suits there. john Otting runs the elevator and has a great time kidding Con. On one of his extensive business trips to the East, john ran into jim Lampen, who plays professional baseball with the Boston Red Sox. He's made himself quite a reputation and has become the baseball idol of millions of fans. Bobby soxers mob him whenever he gives out with that half-shy grin of his. Well, I'd better run along. It's been swell seeing you, Carla. Call me up sometime. Bye. 'A' 'k 'A' 'k 'k 'A' 'k i' 'A' 'A' -z 27

CLASS PROPHECY Scene! Comer of 8119 and River Hi,,Carla, how are you? I never see you any more. What've you been doing lately? You mean you and Dort have started a day nursery all your own? I thought she was doing office work - oh, only part time. Say, I was in Zeeland the other day, so I walked into Norraine and Alma's nice, new, modern drugstore. They were terribly busy serving customers with their perfectly delicious ice-cream. Their milk comes from Bob Bareman's dairy. Did you know Walt. L. has been helping Bob out by driving for him? Every morning he makes a trip to Mike's Dairy Farm, whose dairy herd, by the way, took top honors at the cattle show last year. Walt has been taking pointers on running a dairy and expects to open one of his own, the largest in Holland, next week. As I was saying, I walked into the drugstore and was just looking around when the music from the juke box caught my ear. I thought that voice sounded familiar, so I stepped over and read all the name plates. Sure enough, Rosie Kooistra's name was listed with her accompanist, Kat jelgersma. Over in a booth, I saw Hazel De Vries, so I sat with her. While we waited for our orders she told me that Norma Piers and her vocalist, Ken Bosman, are fast becoming famous. They've got their own radio programs. Those laughable comedians, Walt. D., Ted, and Norm, provide the laughs. One of the outstanding critics, Dale Voss, lists their show as one of the best in the entertainment field. I had to leave about then, but a few days later I was in Meyers' Music House and had a nice little chat with Helen Van Vels, who works there. She was telling me all about this big new church in town. Rev. Beelen is minister there, Shirley Kimball does the choir directing. Her well known quartet is composed of Marge Van Loo, Hazel Kool, Gert, and Jennie. In the past this quartet has made nation wide tours, but it may be broken up as jen is planning on doing welfare nursing in Detroit as soon as she completes her training. Opposite the Music Shop, hung a big sign. It merely stated, The Vandie Shop . I knew Viny and Sandy had set up a sort of painters' shop so I decided to go and gossip with them. They specialize in portraits and landscape painting, there were several samples artistically arranged. We were busy discussing the way Andy is following in his dad's footsteps - has a coal yard, you know - when Joyce Rutgers came sedately in. She walked over and vigorously joined in the discussion by informing the three of us of the excellent job Don Schreur is doing with his dad's printing business. Some people really have the life. jut Petroelje is the playboy of the year, while folks like Blondie Doornbos slave away in an office or like Abbie De Wys, teach in grade school. jack Vannette is the principal, Henry Teune does an excellent job as the smiling cop on the corner and is the especial friend of all the youngsters. ir i' 'lr if 'A' 'A' 'k i' i' 'k i' 26
