A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD In this Centennial year we tend to look back into the past and to draw comparisons. Christian High could not have existed a century ago, but neither would it have being today were it not for what happened then and since. We are the products of history. Dr. A. C. Van Raalte, the father of our colony, was devoted to the ideal of Christian education. That his ideal remained little more than a dream during his life time is not strange when we consider all the facts. For nearly a half century there has been a Christian School in our fair city, the realization of that dream, and from year to year it has grown stronger. Today one thousand pupils receive Christian preparation for life within its buildings, with well over one-third of them in our High School. How the pioneers would thrill to see the growth of the little school they founded! We can pay no better tribute to them than to labor persistently for the ever greater development of their ideals. May you who have the distinction of graduating in this Centennial year find reason in days to come to appreciate in ever increasing measure the rich contribution our School has made to your cultural and spiritual life. FARE THEE WELL On September 25, 1945, amidst the appropriate 'pomp and ceremony' of the Freshman Reception, the future class of 1947 was initiated into the activities of Christian High. Since that time they have matured considerably, and, as a class are aptly finding their place in many fields of activity at school. This quotation from The Footprints of 1944 was interesting to me because I noted with pleasure the rapid progress and growth made by the Freshmen of 1943 in a year's time according to your reporter. It has been my privilege to be a witness of your development and growth only during your last year as students in Holland Christian High School. I am glad that I have had the opportunity of learning to know most of you by name and many of you because of your excellent scholarship and by the evidences of your good citizenship. 1 am sorry that our acquaintance has been of such short duration. Now the time has come to bid you farewell. Associations as superintendent and students, which have been for the most part pleasant ones, must of necessity come to an end. However, I sincerely hope that you will continue to be active members of the Alumni Association so that we may meet again from time to time to renew our acquaintance. My closing words to you are those which I used when I greeted you and the other students on the first school day last September. As you begin anew in another institution of learning or as a full time employee in business or industry remember to get off to a good start! The keynote for such a beginning is found in the first two verses of the twelfth chapter of the epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Hebrews where we read: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto jesus the author and finisher of our faithg who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross. despising the slfame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. fl F In God bless you all, Lblff V20-af BERT P.
