FOOTPRINTS OF THE PAST On a snowy january morning in 1847, a little group of people knelt on the shore of Lake Macatawa. They gave humble thanks to God who had led them through the difficult years of persecution in their homeland, and now had shown them the spot in which their new homes must be built and life begun anew in this land of promise. Homes were founded and churches erected throughout the course of those trying years of colonization. How- ever, the greatest desire of these Dutch colonists had not yet been fulfilled - they longed for Christian education for their children, In 1902 a Chris- tian grade school was begun and in 1923 the Christian high school had its origin. Now in the year 1947, we pause to consider what marvelous results these struggles and sacrifices of the pioneers have achieved with the help of God. Plans are being made to build a new school building in order to accommodate the increase in enrollment. This century has been one of progress and growth. What will the next century hold? XVe, the class of '47, pledge ourselves to the ideals of Van Raalte and his followers. f F , ,NX 4' f f' I' e- K ff Z ' X , ,. 1 'W' 1'i - king X .2 . ,H .N 11, Hr ' .
