7 rincilaa 5 eoaage Thomas Jefferson said, The care of human life and happiness is the first and only legitimate object of good government. To inspire students to effective self-discipline and acquisition of knowledge limited only by their individual capacities is the function of a good school. In my brief years of service during I-Iolding's long history, I have tried as teacher and administrator to further these aims. To the class of 1966, congratulations on your Commencement We both know you are CONTINUING, not COMMENCING. You pass through the door of high school into a large hall from which many doors lead to varied opportunities. Which door you will open depends on many things -- but Whether you open one or wander aimlessly up and down the halls of the world, depends only on YOU. Waste no time on vain regretsg the past is gone and not a moment of it can be relived or changed. The future lies before you with limitless possibilities. What will you do with it? My best wishes to each of you as we say au revoir, auf'Wiedersehen, hasta la vista. Mrs . I-LE. Clements

7 ulaerinfenalenf 5 eadage When you first came to Holding II1Stif3l1t6, it was only a name. Now, it is an indelible part of your life. Each day spent here--in classes, in the library, in chapel, in the dininghall, on the playing fields--has served to add meaning and stature to your personality and living, through new friends, and multiple influences received. Each activity you shared, whether studying, playing, worshipping, cleaning your room, washing dishes, clearing tables, acting, or some assigned task as punishment, has added to your store of memories. Holding is no longer just a name, it is an indelible part of your life! I trust that your days at Holding have become truly the gateway to a larger life. You moved from childhood to young adulthood, from childish ways to more mature reactions, from one degree of ignorance to glimpse the vast expanse of knowledge, from uncertainty to some degree of security as to your future, materially, .morally, and spiritually. I trust that this larger life will be one with Christ as the point of orientation outside yourself which all men need. Christ can and will serve to tie together the various experiences and make them contribute meaning to your life, but for this to be possible, you will need, always, to exercise faith. Remember, Holding Institute has faith in you. Ifyou are now leaving us, have faith in us, inyour self, in your future, in Christ. If you are returning, plan to make your days atHolding even more meaningful. With best wishes, if -'z' ifffzl. En...
