Most of the credit must go to Miss Dunham, our sponsor and friend, who kept us on the right track. Also a large part of it goes to the workers on the Staff who cooperated and worked together. We say Thank You! to all of you for making this annual possible. TI-IE STAFF fsf ?fLag:If1a lgl p u-l m a lri gq . f7aMe Of Confenfd Dedication Teacher of the year Superintendent's Mess age Principal's Message Annual Staff Adrninis tr ation l Faculty' Classes . Clubs Q6 il Sports Coronation Favorites Advertis em ents lealicafion The improved appearance of the campus is only a part of a much greater improvement at Holding the past year. The school spirit has increasedg the moral tone has been elevatedg and the spiritual life has been deepened and enriched by the constant encouragement, patient teaching, and Christ- ian leadership of our beloved superintendent and his devoted wife. For their patience, understanding, encourgement, enthu- siasm, and efficiency, we the staff dedicate this 1966 issue of the Golden Eagle to Rev. and Mrs. Maurice Daily. 'fl 'Q M'- 4' 5- l gag ep of tk? year The member of the faculty chosen as TEACHER OF THE YEAR for 1965-66 has not always served in that capacity. For a number of years she was secretary of the First Methodist Church in Hampton, Iowa. Prior to that she taught several years in the public schools of Iowa. She holds both B.A. and M.S. degrees from Iowa State, and is one of the most versatile teachers at Holding, teaching both Latin and Mathematics and at the same time serving as bookkeeper and as chairman of the Discipline Committee. In spite of these many duties, she is never too busy to help students with their personal problems. For these reasons and many others, Miss Frieda Blum has been chosen TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 1965-66. 7 ulaerinfenalenf 5 eadage When you first came to Holding II1Stif3l1t6, it was only a name. Now, it is an indelible part of your life. Each day spent here--in classes, in the library, in chapel, in the dininghall, on the playing fields--has served to add meaning and stature to your personality and living, through new friends, and multiple influences received. Each activity you shared, whether studying, playing, worshipping, cleaning your room, washing dishes, clearing tables, acting, or some assigned task as punishment, has added to your store of memories. Holding is no longer just a name, it is an indelible part of your life! I trust that your days at Holding have become truly the gateway to a larger life. You moved from childhood to young adulthood, from childish ways to more mature reactions, from one degree of ignorance to glimpse the vast expanse of knowledge, from uncertainty to some degree of security as to your future, materially, .morally, and spiritually. I trust that this larger life will be one with Christ as the point of orientation outside yourself which all men need. Christ can and will serve to tie together the various experiences and make them contribute meaning to your life, but for this to be possible, you will need, always, to exercise faith. Remember, Holding Institute has faith in you. Ifyou are now leaving us, have faith in us, inyour self, in your future, in Christ. If you are returning, plan to make your days atHolding even more meaningful. With best wishes, if -'z' ifffzl. En... 7 rincilaa 5 eoaage Thomas Jefferson said, The care of human life and happiness is the first and only legitimate object of good government. To inspire students to effective self-discipline and acquisition of knowledge limited only by their individual capacities is the function of a good school. In my brief years of service during I-Iolding's long history, I have tried as teacher and administrator to further these aims. To the class of 1966, congratulations on your Commencement We both know you are CONTINUING, not COMMENCING. You pass through the door of high school into a large hall from which many doors lead to varied opportunities. Which door you will open depends on many things -- but Whether you open one or wander aimlessly up and down the halls of the world, depends only on YOU. Waste no time on vain regretsg the past is gone and not a moment of it can be relived or changed. The future lies before you with limitless possibilities. What will you do with it? My best wishes to each of you as we say au revoir, auf'Wiedersehen, hasta la vista. Mrs . I-LE. I-low can you say goodbye to one Who, in a period of forty years, has seen almost three generations of students come and go? Miss Mary E. Glendinning, during her years here at I-Iolding, has become indeed the very incarnation of the spirit and motivat- ing force which led, some eighty-five years ago, dedicated women to begin the school. I-louse-mother, Bible teacher, assistant to the Superintendent, counselor, warm friend, dietician, and stand -by for emergencies, Miss Glendinning for many young people has been a person of major influence in their lives. It has been said that if one carves on granite, time with its finger will erase what is written, if one carves on the human heart, one has engraved letters of influence which will endure through time and all eter- nity. Miss Mary E. Glendinning has done this. We bid her goodbye, God-speed, knowing that God's richest blessings will fill her heart with joy for the rich reward of well done, good and faithful servant. We hope she will come back to see us often. ' sw?-1 Pulusmuc NIU! ' wmn uh W WM 2 X .33 'N X131 Jac ia! P . N N, R, xJJ ck fl fr f Ng, my N , yn Q, . J VX V.
