I X xxx Xl er of the Mrs. Harriet Canales has been named Teach Year because of the many ways in which she has challenged and served the Holding student body in the past two years. Among the many fine qualities she has manifested we find that of a deep concern for the individual student as he or she faces academic or personal problems. Her leader- ship in student activities, offered regularly and enthusias- tically, has convinced us of her desire to see them realize both achievement and joy. Her honesty and fairness in the guidance of academic activities have helped us to under- ' f education. ' tent Christian stand the meaning o ' we see in her life the consis the goal of making In all of this witness which results when one follows our Lord the Lord of Life. After completing work for her B. A. degree at Southern Methodist Uni- versity, she went to Scar- ritt Bible and Training school to prepare for mis- sionary work in China. When her health did not permit her to go as a missionary to China, she came to Hold- ing as Bible and English teacher in-1-22,2-, During a leave of absence she earned her M.A. degree in Bible at Scarrett College. Another leave of absence per- mitted her to earn another M.A. degree in English from George Peabody College, in Nashville, Tennessee. She was called home to care for her mother in her last illness. Four years later she returned to Holding to become librarian. After the flood destroyed the old school, Miss Leveridge came to the new campus to care for twelve boys in an old residence which is now known as the Home Economics Cot- tage. When the new auditorium was built, Miss Leveridge had a small library in one corner. She helped with the cook- ing in the place that is now the Junior Store. She often stopped some cooking chore to check out a book to a student. She is known for unlimited patience and kindness in help- ing any student to find material in the library. For many years she taught a Sunday School class and helped with the evening meeting for young people. Holding Institute has been fortunate in having a conse- crated Christian teacher and worker like Miss Leveridge. df . , 1.1 'JJ u f:.f1u-+51 'e-'?Etv:w., .. , :Wi JI fi.
