Standing R Warner Manley Mr Abbey Weld Crcclty Seated Quetton Nichols Vickerman DEBATING CLUB This year an experiment was tried at Holderness A comprehensive course covering an admixture of speaking both prepared and extemporareous and debating was inaugurated At the beginning of the winter term an opportunity to participate in the Bates Private School Debating Tournament appeared in the ofling, and the group decided to try for it A Debating Club was organited and a period of intensive practice followed A formal debate club for the climax at Lewiston Finally on March 14th Mr Abbey with Bob Vickerman and Ildric Weld of the affirmative and David Nichols and Bob Creeley of the negative went to Lewiston There I-Iolderness came in fourth out of the seven schools competing and Vicker man with his ready flow of facts, figures, and baloney won an honorable mention as sec ond best speaker Several things have become more apparent now that the season is over Firstly the club s career could not have even occurred without Mr Abbey the invaluable faculty coach Sec ondly we will start next year with seven veterans with nothing to lose and for both the veterans and any new members, much to gain QI' 3' 1 1 1 s ' before the school, with the addition of two more with Laconia High, helped to prepare the ' 1' 9 v ' s i 1 3 v Q .
