FIFTH FCDIQM I-IISTCDIQY The Immortal words of last year s Fxfth Form edltor namely that the umor Class stands for progress are bemg proved this year Progress IS a result not an occurrence We of the Filth Form are not egotxsts Nelther are we falsely modest when we sav we show the most mltlatnye most energy and greatest capabllrty rn the school The Flfth Form holds the pecul rarly promxnent POSIIIOD of bexng the most useful form for rt IS we w1th Muller as our mam stay that do the most work around the campus all of whlch IS dulv appreciated In our lust of attarnments superylslons ol smokxng by the Sxxth Form ranks hugh because we are the hrst to warrant such 1 measure Then late rn the Sprnng of 1941 though supposedly heayxly opposed by the faculty we succeeded III obtaxnlng ten thxrty llghts an lncrease to Flfth Form PYLSIISC Ilnally and most lmportant we rnaugurated the Holderness umor Prom a soclal revolutlon xn the annals of the school The success of xt was probably more astoundmg to us as a dorm than to the school for though we had planned long and carefully the novelty was unpredlctable We appreciated the backlng of Dr I-Iuntmg and Mr Lynch our rnscrutable and metxculous Calthough this IS not shown ln mspectlon marksj dormxtory masters As for sports we can truthfully say we are more than outstandmg Sewall Clark Manley and Foss receued letters 1n Football be1ng ably backed up by the mayorlty of the rest of the form as jayyees Wmter sports were well represented xn all d1v1s1ons With the prominent 'Nlxchols as manager many turned out for baseball Also we can pomt to two top men on the Tennis team the veteran Sewall and the newcomer Manley In Dramatlcs we boast Sewall ln Cox and Box Steve Warner ln an excellent portrayal of a d1zzy lanky dame and Quetton nn a matronly characterxzatxon from Curse You jack Dal lon In the French play Le Mcdecm Malgre Luz Quetton reversed hrs role to that of an old man w1th Vnckerman as one of those much dreamed of cocottes and Lxbbey the leading man underwent a metamorphos1s from a woodchopper to a doctor lolanthe drew out Armstrong Sewall Manley and uetton for pr1nc1pal roles A newcomer to the extra curr1cular act1v1t1es th1s year the Debatmg Club had nts mam stay on nve Flfth Form members Nlchols Weld Vxckerman Quetton and Manley At the Bates Debatlng Conference Vnck placed second for lndlyrdual speaking while the team as a whole placed fourth On the Dzal and Yearbook staff Staples the Asslstant Edltor together w1th Bull the Business Manager and Llbbey the News Fdxtor were taken on as new maternal They w1th Weld as the expernenced Photographrc Ildntor composed the Frfth Form s offers to next year s colossal Dm!
