verslon of Hamlet Immedlately after the recltal a film of last year s House Party was shown m the gym followmg whlch the gurls had to pack At four the gnrls were taken to the tram the boys followed as quxckly as possxble and fond farewells were repeated The tram pulled out and that was the end of a very good House Party The Sprmg dance wxth Kendall Hall whnch followed Sprmg vacatlon was the next xtem of the socnal calendar We left for Peterborough ln a drlzzlmg ram and arrlved there m a mushy snow storm After all of us had been led to our partners a tea dance began to unravel very slowly However the unhappy mhabntants of the green beachwagon Cwhose engme had the bad taste to catch on fire and was smothered wlrh sand soon arrmved and thmgs began to functxon After an excellent buffet supper the ma1n dance began It was declded that the weather dnd not permlt our return to school that nxght so the dance lasted qunte a but longer than usual However as nt was a most enjoyable dance no one complamed at all Some of the boys stayed at the school for the nnght some at the McKee s and the rest stayed at boardmg houses m Peterborough Everyone met at the mn for an excellent breakfast and drove back to school ln tlme for Chapel The final event of the year the Sxxth Form Prom at graduatnon wxll undoubtedly top off the season mn a Httxng manner Many plans are bemg made and a most enjoyable txme should be had by all i',':t Yew' - 9 , . , . 9 a - s . n s . , . SOCIAL ACTIVITIES The socxal season of 1939 40 began wlth our first dance with Kendall Hall The grrls arrxved m tnme to see the last half of the Proctor game and after nearly freezmg to death watchmg Proc tor bemg rumed they were led by numerous non athletic youths to tea at the Rectory After a lnttle whlle the football players began to appear IH search of their partners and soon the tea dance began An excellent buffet supper followed the tea dance The supper was served at long tables m the North dmmg room and the South dmmg room whlch had been transformed mto a very comfortable lounge was used by the many who wlshed to eat and relax at the same time The mam dance whlch was very enjoyable be gan at exght and ended at about ten thrrty so that the gurls could get back to Peterborough at a reasonable hour The next and posslbly the b1ggest soclal event of the year came just after the school had undergone the tortures of m1d years The g1rls arr1ved around four o clock on Frr day February 2nd for the Mld Wlnter House Party and after they were settled nn the1r rooms were taken to tea at the Rectory After tea everyone dressed rn sk1 clothes or s1m1lar apparel to go to the Dartmouth Outmg Club Cabm on Mount Moosnlaukee where an excellent dmner awalted After dmner a caller from Hanover mstructed us m the mcetles of the barn dance and before long every one was vnolently executmg the Vxrgxma Reel and other equally strenuous dances After a few hours of thxs the they were defrosted wnth hot chocolate and cookles After an 8 30 breakfast on Saturday morn mg a large group went to Huckms H111 to see some slalom races but a bltmg wlnter wmd soon drove them back to school The afternoon found a group skung and another group at the Flume and even another at the local cmema The mam dance began at enght and finished at twelve The muslc was supplled by the Green Collegnans an eleven pnece orchestra from Hanover A mldmght lunch of eggs and sausage was served by candlelight and a very enjoyable day was over Cn Sunday mornmg the Slxth Form was rudely awakened by chattermg females of the early morning walk type Breakfast fortu nately was at nme The gurls attended chapel wnth thelr escorts and were duly entranced by the mus xcal talents of the make shaft choir After dmner Mr Abbey and Mr Sheppard gave a swing recital on the llvmg room pianos and Mr Sheppards brother presented a very amusmg truck drivers . . , , - , - 3 3 . . . , . . , 7 - y 9 ' ' 9 , . , . , . . . . , j .- Q x I ' . 1 , 7 - y , J , . y 1 y I ' , 7 party broke up and weary carloads of boys and gxrls wended their way back to school, where o . , Q . . u n n 1 Y Y - s , .
