SKIING The record of the team this year although not quite up to par with that of last year is quite impressive In the New Hampton Interscholastlc Meet the first meet of the year the team did not do very well as far as team scoring is concerned ma1nly because of a lack of entries in jumping and cross country In spite of this we did manage to come in sixth as a team out of the thirteen schools entered At the Ossipee Carnival the following Saturday the team came back with all the prizes The three teams entered were Holderness Lacoma and Brewster There were only two events in this meet and Captain Knowlton captured first place in both In the open races in the afternoon the members of the team did very well individually The next meet with New Hampton was held on I-Iuckms H111 Both the downhill and slalom scores were very close but in the Hnal reckoning Holderness came out on top The Laconia Invitation Meet was held at The Belknap Recreational Center at Gilford N I-I As a team we placed first in the slalom and did well m the downhill but again our lack of Jumpers made us end up in third place for the whole meet The first Proctor Dual Meet was our only unsuccessful dual meet of the year Even without two of our best skier we started out with high hopes We lost the jumping won the slalom nearly tied the downh1ll and lost the Cross Country by a small margin The total score was close but Proctor won The team won a dual meet with Brewster by a large margin capturing both the slalom and the downhill by about ten per cent each,g1v1ng us about a twenty per cent margin for the final score In the second Proctor Dual Meet Holderness was more successful winning the down hill and slalom The margin of victory was about four per cent ment not because of our sknng for we all did well but because we came so close to winning but did not There were about ninety six competitors in both Class A and Class B In the Class A slalom Knowlton was second McKee tied for seventh and Fraser took tenth In the Class B slalom Childs was fourth Clark ninth and Leland twelfth In the Class A down hill Knowlton took second McKee sixth I-Ioismgton ninth and Young sixteenth In the Class B downhill Clark and Childs tied for eighth Leland was in a tie for ninth and Lander was in a tie for tenth We won both the Class A and the Class B downhill but lost the Class A slalom by ten per cent and the Class B slalom by five per cent so in the final scoring we lost to Lebanon High by a score of 390 78 to 389 14 falling to get another leg on the cup which we won last year This meet was followed by a dual meet with Tilton School which we won by a large margin Our last meet of the season was held in Plymouth under the auspices of the Plymouth Swiss Ski School There were Hve other schools entered in this competition Plymouth High School was our strongest opponent in this meet but we managed to win the slalom by a few points We lost the downhill to Plymouth but won the whole meet by a very close margin This gn es us two legs on the cup which we also won last year As a whole the season was a great success We won four dual meets out of five two mvitatlon meets out of five and it must be taken into consideration that We placed second in one of these 1nv1tat1on meets third and slxth in the others.
