c I 1 4 1 , l6iaturg nf iEhure11in1ml lgrngrwa The first Holdenville schools were subscription schools. In September, 1901, the first free school was opened with a faculty of two. At the end of the first month another teacher was added. There was only a large frame building, which stood Where Central now stands. The following year four more teachers were added and a store building was used. But before another school year was opened the old frame building was sold, and Central building was ready for use with a fac- ulty of nine teachers. The town grew so rapidly that soon, Capital Heights and Cedar Street build- ings were built. In 1920 our present High School building was finished, which is the pride of our town.
