Cfaaa .js-Aafory In the tall of 1950 an eager ambmous group entered Holden Hlgh School We were all anxxous to make good and after becoming accustomed to the school s rules and regulations we enthusrastlcally participated rn varrous actxvxtles By the tlme the leaves had turned color and the cool weather had set m there were a good number of frosh who had worked hard m the football tryouts but none were able to make the team The grrls who made their mark rn hockey were Iudrth Forsberg Carol Hyland, and Cynthia Freeland By thrs txme the Student Councxl was orgamzed and Stephen Anderson Robert Page and Gaxl Van Rxper attended the sesslons as our freshmen repre- sentatlves When the funds from the magazme dnve had been talhed our homerooms were found to be rn second and third places and to the envy of the other classes Gordon Cole recewed a Bulova watch m the draw We plodded along through the wmter months and after basketball tryouts we found sxx of our boys on the second team, namely Gerald Hyland Robert Page James Layman Tony Buthray Gary Harrmg ton and Conrad Polrner In gurls basketball Judnth F orsberg was the sole freshman to make the second team Also at thas trme there were theatncal mterests strrrlng rn the school and under the skillful gurdance of Nfxss Prxce our popular and successful travelllng assemblv team was formed Among the members were two freshmen to show the out of towners what we could do We were very happy when sprmg arrxved and really looked forward to our summer vacahon Prov mg that we werent so dumb after all there were thxrty two freshmen on the honor roll We all looked forward to succeedmg years when we could sponsor some socral functrons After a refreshmg vacatlon we plunged enthusras tlcally mto our second year To start off the follow Vrce Presndent James Layman Secretary Shirley I'ourmer and Treasurer Davld Cole Some of the gxrls Jomed the dramatic club under the experxenced hand of Mrs Smrth, and Eve of our boys made the football team mcludmg james Lay man Stephen Anderson Paul Dowd Tony Buthray and Herbert Sherwin Sxx girls made the second team rn hockey and played an excellent game through out the season This year our student council members were Judxth Howe James Layman and Stephen Anderson Our freshman year was prrmarnly a get acquainted year now we felt that we were old trmers around the school We started the wmter term by hltermg mto such varying fields as the Clarion staff the operetta the assembly team and the girls and boys basketball teams When Mrs Smrth called for Prlze Speakmg can dldates there was a good sophomore response and we all showed up well By non there was no more sectnonahsm We had nearly forgotten what grammar school other students had attended and developed a real team spnrxt This year we sadly parted with Stephen Anderson James Layman and Robert Page All three boys hate attended other schools When the honor roll was listed this sprmg there were twenty eight sophomore names to be found on at That June we wearlly lard down our pencils and books thankfully contemplating our enjoyable sum mer to come The next fall we entered an even busier year We started by electing Falth Bascom as our presrdent Davxd Cole as vrce president Shrrley Fourmer as secretary and Gary Harnngton as treasurer The furst social functron of the year whxch we sponsored was the football dance It had faxrly good attendance and we happily stored more money mto the treasury This fall there were erght jumor boys who were domg outstandmg work for us on the football fxeld The grrls were stlll holdmg thelr own wrth four makmg the varsxty hockey team The student councnl was launched by a new advtsor thxs year Mr Laprade-whom we all commend for hrs fine work The representatives thls year were Marxlyn Estey Audrey Kmg Gary Harrmgton and Davrd Cole They helped considerably m makmg thus an actxve group The year before we had shown a theatrical tendency thrs year we went all out w1th an excellent repre sentatlon m the travelling assembly team the all state concert group the speech club and the Grange Prnze Speakmg group On the basketball court we had Mxchael Morrissey Gerald Hyland Gary Harrmgton Edward Berry and Gordon Cole sparking us on to vlctory As for the gurls varslty basketball half of the team was composed of Jumors In the sprmg came the brggest social event of all the much talked about Junlor Prom We all worked very hard those last few days ln decoratmg the gym Mardn Gras style The finished product was really well worth the effort as everyone commended our work The vsalls were covered wxth gay masks sceptres and trumpets and there was a mass of streamers and balloons overhead Everyone danced the night away rn perfect happmess Now that we had become soclal butterllles we had even more reason to be exhausted when summer rolled around We showed that we could really keep up the scholastxc end wnth a good representation on the honor roll 'lhe tragedy whxch struck Holden last June cer tamly brought out the best tralts ln many of the townspeople mcludmg the members of the semor class centers and the boys worked wxth the crews whxch cleared the wreckage We certamly put ln many hours of hard work Thls year bemg the last of Holden High Schools existence we entered It wrth a sober determlnatxon to make rt the best year rt has ever had Mrs Creamer mdxspensable as our frlend and advxsor has always sparked us on We chose as presrdent Gerald Hyland vlce presx dent Audrey Kmg secretary Manlyn Estey, and treasurer David Cole In the fall we started off by conductmg a paper drrve whlch topped the all tune record and gamed a great deal toward the class trrp The campaign was continued by the presentation of an entrrely drfferent semor play a suspense drama which was very successful as well as novel On the athletxc front the semor boys and glrls agam skillfully dommated the scene Fxnally we arrived at the one event toward which we had drrected all our energres and money-durmg the past three years Wnth a great deal of happmess and excitement we embarked upon the class trap to New York A gulded tour through the city the Broadway musrcal Wonderful Town and vanous radio and televrsron shows were the highlights of the excursion It was certainly thrxlhng and profitable and surely no one wlll ever forget lt Now that we have reached our last year of high school we can recall all the memones that are ours Grvmg humble thanks to all the teachers who have helped us to better ourselves through the understand mg of others we promnse that the future w1ll prove thelr
