Night of January 16 by Ayn Rand Presented by the Holcomb High School Directed by Jeanine I. Rishel In this play the audience took an integral part in its development and conclusion. The jury, selected from the audience, was given the problem of deciding the guilt or innocence of Karen Andre who is on trial for the murder of Bjorn Faulkner. The plot is thickened when a gangster friend of Karen's tells that the death was faked in order that Karen, Faulkner, and the gangster could go to South America and live in lux- ury on the fortune that Faulkner had established there. The Old Lady Shows Her Medals and The Elephant Man The junior class presented The Old Lady Shows Her Medals by James Barrie - directed by Janine Rishel. Cast Jana Scott . . . ...... Mrs. Dowey Alan Myers .... . .. Kenneth Dowey Rosanna Haas . . . .... Charwoman Roxanna Perez . . . . . Charwoman JoAnn Romo ...... . . .Charwoman Alphonsus Danler ..... . . . Mr. Willings Four nice old ladies are having a tea-party and discussing the war. They are all London charwomen. Mrs. Dowey, the hostess, claims that she has a son serving in France and produces a stack of letters to prove it. While discussing their sons in the war, Mr. Willings, the clergyman, arrives with news that Mrs. Dowey's son is outside. The old lady is surprised and terrified since she really does not have a son. She asks everyone to leave before ushering the young man in Kenneth Dowey enters and scowls at the old lady. He seizes the letters from her hand and unties the string around them. He discovers they contain only blank paper and demands an explanation. It was everybody's war but mine, mister, she said, and I wanted it to be mine too . She confesses that she saw his name in the paper and picked the envelopes out of waste-paper baskets and changed the addresses. Before returning to the war Ken- neth becomes attached to the old lady and promises to return. The forensics students, under the direction of Rachel Nul- ton, presented The Elephant Man by Thomas Gibbons. Cast Joel Erskin .... ......... J ohn Merrick Kent Angeles .................. Dr. Frederick Treves A grotesquely deformed Victorian sideshow freak, Mer- rick was so severly distorted that he was described as an elephant. He experienced an anquished existence. Inward- ly, he had an acute intelligence and romantic imagination, but outwardly he was a monstrous abomination, revealed in twisted, distorted flesh. He was indeed a creature without human hope until a British surgeon, Dr. Frederick Treves, discovered Merrick and made an attempt to reclaim him for the human race.
