KINDELAN ROBERT N. KINDELAN MEMORIUM JASON WALTER HILL FAREWELL TO 17 A sad farewell to seventeen, to open skies and fields of green. The runner with the wind at his back, always a stride ahead of the pack, Setting his own hard-driven pace, Lord didn ' t he know that this wasn ' t a race. Covering distance with a grace so rare, as breaths of steam expire into cold winter air. A sad farewell to seventeen, To my very dear friend, to one young man ' s dream. — William Eric Guerriero 3 s 6 DEDICATION Traditionally, the Echo staff of Holbrook Jr. Sr. High School has dedicated the yearbook to a member of the faculty who they feel has gone to incredi- ble lengths for the benefit of the student body, and who has been an all- around asset to the school. Continuing this tradition, the 1987 Echo staff has chosen Mr. Donald Cosgrove as recipient of this dedication. Mr. Cosgrove has been a guidance counselor in Holbrook for only two years, but he has established an excellent relationship with the students. He has shown an equal and genuine concern for the academic and personal welfare of each student, particularly dealing with hysterical seniors over college or job decisions, applications, and scholarships. He willingly gives guidance to any student. He does so without hesita- tion and with a smile on his face. 9 ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS John Moran The 1 987 Echo staff, on behalf of the entire student body, would like to thank Mr. Mahanorfor his support and encouragement throughout the year. As Principal, Mr. Mahanor, takes on the respon- sibilities of providing leadership and guidance not only for the faculty but also for all of the students at Holbrook Jr Sr High. It is because of these qualities that we, the students, are able to strive for excellence. PRINCIPAL Donald P. Mahanor 10 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Walter W. Fuller 25 1 SENIO THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1987 OFFICERS Gail Hanafin, Vice-President; Diane Cummings, President; Dan Doherty, Treasurer; Miss Janet Parisi, Advisor; Karen McLellan, Secretary. As graduation approaches, the members of the Class of 1 987 are anticipating the end of their high school years, and the commencement of their adult lives. There are mixed emotions among everyone — a sadness for the past, yet a longing for the future. Seniors are not only looking forward to graduation in May, but also to senior week activities, which include the senior assembly, the class trip to Connecticut, and the senior reception, which will be held at the Sheraton Tara in Mansfield. Without the hard work and dedication of Advisor Miss Janet Parisi, the class officers, and the executive board, the students would not have reached the goals for which they have strived and will continue to strive for in the years to come. The Class of 1 988 still has its momentum flowing. The juniors have been very successful with the basketball concessions. This experience, they hope, will give them more insight to the football concessions they must tackle next year. May 8th is the chosen day for the Junior Prom. The theme designated for this year ' s prom wil I be Camelot. The junior class has decided to spare no expense for the most extravagant prom ever to be held in the Junior-Senior High. Along with the many traditions present at the Junior Prom, the executive board has decided to add to the festivity. Knights will be chosen as escorts for the princesses along with the traditional king and queen. The future holds many obstacles that must be overcome. Knowing that these hardships are only the beginning, the Class of 1 988 knows the best is yet to come. EXECUTIVE BOARD Mr. James Fitzgerald, Advisor. 1 . BW BB Ufc B EjB BF W V BA W . W y . The yearbook advisors, Mr. and Mrs. Kindelan, and the members of the staffs for the 1987 ECHO exhibited these qualities, along with extreme patience and a good sense of humor. Staff members gave up much of their free time to work on the yearbook, and some even worked over vacation to make sure a deadline was met. The ECHO would like to thank the faculty for their support and understanding and all its staffs for their efforts. In the preceding year membership was small, but through recent concerns, a dramatic in- crease in membership came about. The members are currently working on finding new ways to educate their peers on the dangers of drinking and driving and encouraging them to sign the “Contract for Life. This is the agreement stating that if either the parent or the child are faced with a situation where they cannot drive home safely and soberly or with someone who is sober, then they will call home for a ride and no questions will be asked, that night. The Contract for Life is all that is required for S.A.D.D. membership and all students are asked and encouraged to join this important organization. They came through with im- pressive victories to make their record comparable to other winning teams. The boys came within one game away from being able to compete in the state tournaments. Despite minor setbacks, the team proved their worth and are more determined than ever to fulfill their goal of winning a banner next year. 109 - GIRLS ' SOCCER ROW 1 : Kim Meier, Nancy Conway, Co-Captain; jill Johnson, Co-Captain; Michele Koski. I know I can, I know I can — the little Chris . . hmm, what do we do now? that could . . . . . aha! I caught it! 110 “All right, now where ' d that ball go? The girls ' soccer team was very successful this season in their first year in the Catholic School Soc- cer League. The girls did well on an individual as well as on a team basis. Angel Schofield was the leagues top scorer and congratulations to Kelly Burke, who in her first season as goalie, was the top goalie in the league. She had an excellent record with many shutouts. The team went undefeated in the league despite very tough competition especial- ly from Cardinal Spellman High School. The girls went on to play in the Massachusetts State Tourna- ment and were victorious until the final game when they were defeated. Congratulations go out to all the girls for their fine playing and for receiving the soccer banner. Good luck in the seasons to come. Do you think she ' s going to bite her tongue? Should I use my knee or my head? Ill CROSS COUNTRY ROW 1: )ason Hill, Richard Soley, Rick Bleakney, Alen Burrell. ROW 2: Shawn McKeen, Rob Divito, Mr. Tony Baxter, Coach; Eric Olsen, Nicole Caffrey, Steven Kennerson. The team had a very competitive season. ROW 2: Cindy Stec, Colleen Connors, Vikki Smith, Kerri Smith, Katie Murphy, Chris Brown. ROW 3: Jim Pettine, Coach; Shauna Grovell, Angel Schofield, Andy Hill, Coach; Paul Roukey, Coach. This was Coach Jim Petine ' s last year at HJSHS and he will be missed. 113 ■ BOYS ' BASKETBALL ROW 1: Andy Levinson, George Morelli, Captain; Tom Mills. ROW 2: Brian Foley, Dennis Gavin, Sean Toomey, Dan Doherty, Mark Morrison, )im Ross, Chris Jenkins. The boys ' basketball team proved those who said they had no chance of making the playoffs wrong. The season was one of re- building and determination. All players gave much effort into the season play, with a record of 1 1 -7. Though they were eliminated after the first round of post-season play, the team work manifested steady improvement and cooperation. The time and effort put in by Coach Hamilton proved most worthwhile. 114 JR. VARSITY ROW 1: Darren Cosindas, Tom Higgins, jim Watkins, Kevin Gavin, Russ Quigg, Matt Conley. Wrestl ing at Holbrook has come far in the past three years. This year the team scored its first varsity team win plus wins against Cape Cod Tech and Hull. This was remarkable since the team lacking numbers started every meet down by 24 points. It soon became characteristic of this team to overcome all that opposed them. Determination drove them, however, to exceed their goals. Jason Morris, Ricky Bleakney, Co-Captains. 118 GYMNASTICS ROW 1 : Leanne Pompeo, Cindy MacPherson, Wendy Christianson, Lynda Reynolds. ROW 2: Heather McDonald, Manager; Julie Reynolds, Doreen Burrell, Angel Schofield, Laurie Buckley, Heather White, Michelle Giangregorio, Denise Bobitt, Kerri Smith, Manager. The varsity gymnastic team ' s record year has proven to be quite successful. Though their record may not show it, the scoreboard does. Hours of practice contributed to the overall improvement of every team member and allowed the team to finally fill the roster. One of the highlights of this season was a trip to Nantucket. Ten hours of travel in two days led to complete exhaustion and an abundance of stories and memories for all. The gymnasts are all looking forward to an even better season next year. 119 BASEBALL ROW 1 : Tom Mills, Carl Nota, Mike O ' Neil, Al Capps, Jeff Dyer, Mike Ward. ROW 2: Mr. Connell, Coach; Donny MacNeil, Pat Burke, Rich Pettitto, Jim Flynn, Dennis Gavin, Steven Gavin. Al Capps, Richie Ring, Jeff Dyer, Dan Ford and Donny MacNeil were se- lected as all-stars. The team was also selected to play in the State Tournament in which they were defeated by the future state champions, Norton H igh School. The boys anticipate yet another successful season. JR. The team along with Coach Kathy Hatch expects even better things in the future. 122 ROW 1: Cindy Eastman, Kara Kearney, Wendy Higgins, Kristen Gould, Michelle Bronkhurst, Mary Hatch. ROW 2: Patty Caron, Coach; Terry Quimby, Michelle Phinney, Karen Krance, | Eileen McEleney, Robin Silver, Tobi Quigg, Lisa Katilus. J.V.
