KINDELAN GRACE O. KINDELAN I MR. JEROME WALSH DEDICATION Over the past four years, the Class of 1 984 has come to admire and respect a very special member of the English Department, Mr. Jerome Walsh. At first he appears harsh and strict, but underneath that rough exterior lies a very warm, gentle, sensitive man. He retains certain charac- teristics which set him apart from the rest: his abil ity to say very little yet vividly express his opinion, his bah hum- bug attitude about Christmas because of its commercial- ism, his refusal to allow his picture in the yearbook and yet his joy at seeing the student ' s enthusiasm when they receive their book, and his knowledge of trivial subjects in detail. He has enriched our lives in more ways than we could ever recount, so in appreciation we are dedicating the 1984 Echo to Mr. Jerome Walsh. 2 IN APPRECIATION WILLIAM T. BUCKLEY PRINCIPAL HOLBROOK HIGH SCHOOL 1959-1983 MEASURE OE A MAN It is not the critic who counts nor the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat, who strives valiantly; who errs and may fail again because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who does know the great enthu- siasm, the great devotion; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails while daring greatly, knows that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. Mahatma Gandhi 3 THANK-YOU In our Sophomore Year Miss Carol Neville volun- teered to become our class advisor. She lifted the spirits of the class with her enthu- siasm and put us back on our feet. Over the years we have grown to respect her but most of all to love her very much. She has not only worked with the class as a whole, but she has cared for each individual person. She is the kind of person we can go to for help, and she will try to solve the problem. In our Junior year we looked forward to our Prom. Miss Neville worked hard and was as excited as if it were her own. Now it is our Senior year. Everyone is looking forward to the Reception, the class trip, and most of all to graduation. The only thing we are not looking forward to is saying our good-bye ' s to Miss Carol Neville. We love you Carol, and we ' ll never forget you! When Carol Neville was appointed class advisor in our Sophomore year, she and the nearly all-female Executive Board began wishing and working to make the Class of 1984 unique. Over the years, concessions, candy, poster and maga- zine sales, and raffles added funds to the class treasury. These funds allowed us to sponsor a Junior Prom which was unique in Holbrook High School ' s history and un- forgetable for all who attended. Our Wishing on a Star did not end there. Our creativity was shown in the Homecoming Banner Con- test; our winning the talent competition in the Variety show; and our Senior Reception will be held at the Mar- riott Hotel in Boston followed by a moonlight cruise around Boston Harbor. We started the year off great by winning the banner contest at Homecoming. As the year progressed, the enthusiasm of the class grew. Our Executive Board planned a fabulous and well organized Arts Crafts Fair which covered most of the expenses for our Junior Prom. The Prom was the social highlight of the year. The class agreed to return the Prom to the high school, and the night was magical and romantic and enjoyed by all. We know that our senior year will be as rewarding as the other years because we are the class with class! This year ' s Freshman class, despite its small numbers, has shown tremendous spirit and great enthusiasm. In November, the Freshmen presented a class skit at the annual variety show and won second prize. In December, the class ran a most successful fund raiser which was completed early in January, and netted the class treasury a substantial profit.
