ECHO 1983 HOLBROOK HIGH SCHOOL HOLBROOK MASSACHUSETTS EDITORS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF EILEEN MCCORMACK BUSINESS DAVID HURLEY LAYOUT CYNTHIA ANDERSON LITERARY KAREN UMINSKI TYPING LISA HERNANDEZ ADVISORS ROBERT N. KINDELAN GRACE O. KINDELAN DEDICATION It is with gratitude that we, the staff of the 1 983 Echo, dedicate this book to Mrs. Helen Fitzgerald, advisor and friend to the Class of ' 83. As freshmen the Class of ' 83 had no advisor until Mrs. Fitz willingly stepped in. Since then she ' s been their driving force and their saving grace. Her flare for getting things done was an enormous help during their Junior year. It is quite certain that without Mrs. Fitz , their Prom, Forever Spring , would not have been the success it was. Although the Senior year began with a stumble, Mrs. Firzgerald was able to get the class back on their feet in no time. With all financial problems well out of the way, this lucky class was able to concentrate on the much enjoyable planning of Senior Week activities. Once more, we ' d like to thank Mrs. Fitzgerald for all her time and effort, not only spent on this years ' Seniors, but also the entire student body. From those of us who are leaving, we ' ll miss you Mrs. Fitz . 2 ADMINISTRATION Not all schools are lucky enough to have the understanding and supportive administration that we have here at Holbrook High in Mr. Buckley and Mr. Mahanor. With budget cuts, negative publicity, and an increasingly apathetic feeling in the communi- ty, these past few years have been particularly trying for all of us. These two men, however, have continually stood by both the faculty and the students. Let us take this time to thank them for all their hard work and to wish them con- tinued success. The 1 982 Holbrook Bulldog baseball team culmin- ated an extremely successful season by winning the Eastern Massachusetts State tournament with an excit- ing come from behind 6-5 victory over the Norton Lancers. Previous to their state championship effort, the Bulldogs had won the South Shore League champion- ship for an unprecedented eleventh time in the last eighteen years with a 20-1 record. Holbrook has been a state finalist numerous times in the last twenty years, but this state baseball championship is the first in the school ' s history. 90 TRACK Row 1 : Angela Simms, Dianne Smith, Kerry Burn, Maria Haapokoski, Jean Nasios, Linda O ' Leary, Michelle Mann, Joanne Dance, Amy O ' Leary, Donna DeStoop, Lesley Parrish, Michelle Landers, Christine Allen, Row 2: Mr. Tony Baxter, Coach; Jamie Hellett, John McCormack, Enrique Gongora, Andy Hill, Jamie Gauss, Giro Delavega, Jay McCormack, Jeff Chichoine, James Burrell, David Reilly, Paul Roukey, Robert Calhoun, Derek Morris, Richard McCormick, Mario Melendez, Scott Purslow, James Starr. 92 r 94 HOMECOMING 1982 October 23, 1982 was designated Homecoming Day. This day has tradi- tionally been a day for Holbrook High School alumni to return and to watch the Bulldogs play football. This is an ideal opportunity for them to see old friends and renew acquaintances. As part of this years ' festivities the band and the cheerleaders joined forces to perform a special pre-game show. Perhaps the most exciting part of the celebration, however, was the selection of the Homecoming Queen. The Senior class elected six of its own most deserving young women who exemplify the ideals of Holbrook High. The Queen was finally selected by a special committee formed by the President of the Booster Club. This years ' Queen was Kim Wright, and her princesses were Donna Colado, Cheryl Eastman, Laura Hartsgrove, Flo Lemieux, and Chris MacWilliams. Congratulations Ladies! CARD ATTORNEY AT LAW ECHO 771 THE HOLBROOK EDUCATION ASSOCIATION wishes THE CLASS OF 1983 LOVE AND HAPPINESS ALWAYS 129 SUMNER SCHOOL 1872-1982 What was the Sumner School? It was a good time with good friends to share it with. It was a lot of laughs and a lot of pieces of our lives that were left behind. This page of the yearbook is dedicated to our prehigh school memories. The Sumner School built a foundation for many friendships. Even though the school is gone, the friendships still remain. The Sumner School helped us grow up. It was as much a part of us then as the High School is now. We were fortunate enough to have been a part of the many memories that will be remembered. The Sumner School may be gone forever, yet we will always be grateful for the years that were well spent there. When the Sumner School was torn down, it was as if a part of our adolescent years were also taken away, and only the memories still stand. Even if they stand alone, they will remain to stand strong as long as we have love in our hearts for the good ol ' days. 130 131 CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES CLASS OF 1983 HOLBROOK HIGH SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB PAT FOLEY, PRESIDENT JOANNE KOVAL, VICE-PRESIDENT BARBARA GAYNOR, SECRETARY NICKIE ANDERSON, TREASURER CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 1983 FROM THE PAUL J.
