ECHO 1979 HOLBROOK HIGH SCHOOL HOLBROOK MASSACHUSETTS EDITORS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF EEIZABETH QUINN LITERARY PATRICIA GARLAND LAYOUT MICHAEL SULLIVAN TYPING STEPHANIE VAYDA, ANNE D ' ARCANGELO BUSINESS CHERYL KEEP, ROBERT DOWNING ADVISORS MR. MRS. ROBERT N. KINDELAN i ■w ’1 .■wfl - , i ' l SCHOOL MEMORIUM KEVIN LYNCH It is only right at this time that we take a moment to reflect our thoughts about Kevin. Even though he is not with us, we will always remember him. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Kevin will remember him in a very special way, whether it be as a friend, a teammate or a classmate. As we leave Holbrook High, the fondest of memories of Kevin as a special person will be with us always. 14 r MEMORIUM JACKIE NEILL Although Jackie was with us for only a short time, our memories of her will remain with us always. We were fortunate to know Jackie and to admire her courage and her strong will to live. By her example we have been shown that it is not how long the journey, but how the journey is traveled. DEDICATION In every high school, there is a member of the faculty who seems to be the best friend of the student body. One who is a favorite to all. In Holbrook High School, this person is Mr. Robert Kindelan, or more affectionately known to the students as K . Mr. Kindelan is indeed a favorite of many students from grades 9-12, but is especially dear to the Senior class. Mr. K is the driving force of the yearbook staff. Through his experience and artistic ability, he has helped us to produce a year- book which will be very special and cherished by all of us for many years to come. So, we the class of 1979, with sincere thanks dedicate the 1979 yearbook to Mr. Robert Kindelan. THANK YOU On behalf of the town of Holbrook we, the staff of the Echo, would like to dedicate this page to our former school nurse, Mrs. Marguerite Facey, who served this school system and the town above and beyond the call of duty . She not only served as a nurse, but also as a friend to many. She was someone there to help no matter what the problem. It would be impossible to express sufficiently our appreciation for all of her efforts in these past twenty years. Mrs. Facey retired December 30, 1978, but to most of us, her presence is still felt as we walk into the nurses office. We will never forget Mrs. Facey. So now with love and devotion we would like to say farewell and good luck to a wonderful person. THANK YOU Harold Soule, our head custodian, has been a part of Holbrook High School for over twenty years. His total devotion has been that of excellence, and we should be very grateful for his never ending willing- ness to help others. Harold enjoys lobster trapping and the art of cook- ing in his spare time. Utilizing his expertise as a cook, he has worked at D ' Anns and Matts Villa mak- ing pizza dough. He has also worked at the Old English Dairy. This is Harold ' s retirement year and we would like to thank him for all his work with the other custodi- ans, the teachers, and the students. Good Luck Harold, we love you! 19 A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT To the Graduates of the Class of 1979 at Holbrook High: Normalization with China, revolts in Iran, fiscal responsibility in tbe American Society, the re-emergence of a world wide energy crisis, an unfavorable balance in trade are but a few of the issues before us currently. What will the issues be when you review these pages in order to bring back old and familiar friendships some ten and twenty years on? Will all of the educational and social experiences gained at Holbrook High School be enough to sustain you and carry you forward? In my view, all of that which has been part of your curriculum, part of your course of instruction, part of your developmental background, will be of little merit unless you develop an overview that education is indeed a lifelong experience; an experience that really never ends. High School years are a time when one tests various rolls and patterns, a time when one develops a sense of self. The mature adult years are a time when there is a conflict between the role of establishing patterns which are generative versus patterns of stagna- tion. We can never become self satisfied, complacent and unbending in the world that presents constant change. Progression and regression are evident in the fiber of our soci- ety. You must nurture and sustain an element of intellectual curiosity and a strong mod- icum of empathy toward those who do not see as you see. I know that the Holbrook School Committee joins with me in passing to you the very best of good wishes. I offer warm congratulations to you and to your families as you achieve yet another milestone in your development. Very sincerely yours, RICHARD J. MCKAY Superintendent of Schools OFFICE STAFF MRS. The six finalists, Karen Callahan, Lisa Clement, Michelle Derome, Diane Godfrey, Roberta Harding, and Lisa Riccio nervously awaited the final judgement of who would be the 1978 Homecoming Queen. All of the girls were worthy of the title, but the final choice was Lisa Clement. Lisa was crowned by the 1977 Queen, Denise McDonald. The Queen and her court all received flowers and were taken for the royal ride around the football field to end a perfect afternoon. V. The class spent many hours in preparation for making the prom a night to remember. The gym was decorated in the theme of Harbor Lights, and a mood of romance prevailed as the couples arrived in their formal attire. As we think back, the junior Prom will always be a high- light in our memories of our high school years.
