HOLBROOK ECHO 1974 A ART EDITORS BUSINESS EDITOR. LITERARY EDITOR TYPING EDITOR ADVISOR SUSAN CALHOUN SANDEE GOLDEN BRUCE ARONSON SUSAN CULLEN LYNNE MOORES MR. THOMAS YOUNG TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION During our years at Holbrook High School, we have been fortunate in studying with and learn- ing from many excellent teachers, and we wish to express our sincerest gratitude. It is, however, also an appropriate time to single out that one particular teacher who has given so entirely of himself to us and all his students. This teacher, in the classroom, as on the athletic field, has instilled in us, by example and encour- agment, the sportsman-like attitudes which we will carry with us throughout life. The Class of 1974, like all past classes, has had its difficulties, but with the guidance and concern of this teacher we have been able to overcome these obstacles. Each of us has been touched by the sincerity and dedication of this man in his own special way. We will always remember his witty remarks, his humor, his good will, his jitterbug and his kind- ness. For these reasons and so many others, we, the students of Holbrook High school, the Echo Staff and, especially, the Class of 1974, with a great deal of gratitude and affection dedicate the 1974 Echo to a very special person, teacher and friend, Mr. William Leanues. 4 Oo lf %}) 1 nvij — Kf t‘ nt|fT “Tf Y % cnni i cs i tiin f,tiff iPf ' r iktxi j! c n cii ' l fhinii?T ft’iwi idlcn human l ' in Lc me- l‘f u ' ' r- J mi- net Ci(jn c ’■fvr- e. For the important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become.” 8 9 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL In some sort, the end of life is that a man should take up the universe into himself, and out of that quarry- leave nothing unrepresented. Emerson Not so very long ago Holbrook High School was entrusted with education, your total education, to arrive at this end, and to aid you in directing and establishing your goals and purpose in life. To know the Universe! That’s a pretty large order. Now, only four very short years later, that task has come to an end and you have reached your commencement; a beginning to a new life, a life in which you must take your place in a society of flux and change, and in which you must decide your identity. If we have been the least bit successful in opening that door to the universe, if we have been able to create a curiosity in you to find what lies beyond that door, then our purpose has been served. If not, we have failed. It is my hope, and the hope of every member of the faculty, that Holbrook High has prepared you to make this transition enthusiastically, willingly and successfully. If, at any time, however, you need our assistance, keep in mind that we shall always stand ready to give our help and advice on aiding you to meet this end. William T.
