. ! THE 1973 ECHO HOLBROOK HIGH SCHOOL HOLBROOK, MASSACHUSETTS Editor-In-Chief Jo Ann Harding Literary Editor Judith Kreutzer Art Editor Susan Calhoun Business Editor Virginia Bryant Typing Editor Linda McGraw Advisors .Mr. Joseph O’Neill Mr. Thomas Young FACULTY 10 ACTIVITIES 26 SPORTS 38 UNDERCLASSMEN 52 SENIORS 66 I 0 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS 3 DEDICATION This has been a year of great hope and realization for the American people. It is, therefore, most fit- ting that we should publicly acknowledge and thank a man who has instilled in his students an appreci- ation of yesterday, an awareness of today and a dream for tomorrow. We have benefitted in every possible way from his patience and understanding for he has always been more than willing to listen to and to communicate with any student who sought his advice or encouragement . . . 1 . . . Many of us will remember his smile or his laugh. Others will remember his shouts while on the field coaching the team onto victory. He has worked energetically with our class and it has been only through his patience that we, as a class and individ- ually, have been able to achieve our goals. We look back with pride at those successes that he has helped to make possible. The Echo Staff shall always remember his willing- ness and hard work in lending us every assistance to meet our deadlines. And who of us shall ever forget his campaign drives to sell yearbooks or his catchy slogans? It is with these memories and innumerable others still vividly alive that we, the students of Holbrook High, the Echo Staff and, especially, the Class of 1973, proudly and most gratefully dedicate the 1973 Echo to Mr. Joseph J. O’Neill. 5 Could it be that yesterday is now today? Have we already turned to face the waking of a new day, to find ourselves plunged into the future? It seems we should still be the self- conscious freshmen we once were . . . 6 7 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL ... All the world’s a stage. And all the men and women merely players. WILLIAM T BUCKLEY They have their exits and their entrances. Principal And one man in his time plays many parts. His acts being seven . . . Shakespeare As the Graduating Class of 1973 you have just completed one of those acts. For four years you have been playing a role; a role which depended largely on you for its success or its failure. In September of 1969 you made your entrance. That entrance, like so many other things, derived its strength and vitality from your personality and desire to succeed. You are now about to make your exit. If you have taken advantage of your brief stay with us, grasping the knowledge that was offered you, using the opportunities that were presented, developing yourself both intellectually and socially, you are ready to face that new role. It is my sincerest wish, and the wish of the entire faculty, that you will find a world of success and happiness in the role that awaits you. Remember, however, that although you are now leaving us, we stand ready to help you in that future if the need ever arises. 8 MRS. ELIZABETH HARTSHORN School Secretary MR. Yet we are now the Senior Class. Days have flashed by and become years. We must now make a new start. We look back know- ing that we shall never see these days again but must make new footsteps for an even brighter future. 123 THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth. Then took the other, just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a woods, and I— I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.
