The 1966 Echo Holbrook High School Holbrook, Massachusetts Dedication It is with sincere respect and admiration that we, the class of 1966, dedicate this yearbook to our teacher and friend Mr. Donald P. Mahanor. Mr. Mahanor is unique in his own right. Few teachers enjoy their profession as he does. Few teachers derive such happiness in realizing that they have helped a few students aspire to their fondest goals in life. Mr. Mahanor understands the young people with whom he associates and affords them the interest and concern which most people reserve for their close friends. Being witty and optimistic by nature, he is able to create an interest in his subject which is an inspiration to all his students. Lofty principles and a noble spirit of patriotism are two of the qualities which Mr. Mahanor has striven to instill in us. He has succeeded simply by the example he himself has put forth. It is certain that we can never thank him adequately for all that he has done for us as individuals and as a class. He has worked hard for us and with us, never forgetting that teaching is his primary concern. We want him to know that we are better for having known him. His efforts will make our futures happier and more successful. May God bless him always. 2 3 Table of Contents Faculty 9 Activities 23 Sports 43 Underclassmen 59 Seniors 77 Advertising 115 Editor in Chief Alison Harvey Assistant Editor Lynne Dorn Typing Editor Karen Gilbert Literary Editor Cheryl Rettig Business Margi Shamro Head Advisor MR. In a sense, Echo is a mirror which reflects our life here at Holbrook High School. The echo of the academic, athletic, and social events are heard throughout our publication. The Echo offers to each student an opportunity to play an impor- tant role in the preservation of the memories which we hold as valuable. We of the Echo staff would like to express our gratitude to our advisors; Mr. Kindelan, Mr. Walsh, and Mr. Cohen. Without their guiding hand and watchful assistance, the successful publication of the 1965-1966 Echo would not have been possible. We would also like to express our thanks to those nameless ones who did so many little things to assist us in our work. 5 Principal’s Message Once more the time has come to say farewell to a graduating class of Holbrook High School. The class of 1966 holds a special place in our hearts. For four years we have watched the members of the class mature into citizens prepared to face the difficulties of the world. We hope that what they have learned here will not desert them. It has always been the special blessing of the school teacher to be able to see the results of his work in the lives of those he has taught. As your principal, I have and will continue to have a profound interest in your accomplishments. In you is reflected not only the traditions and pride of Holbrook High School, but also the diligence and love of the administration and the faculty. Always remember to exhibit with pride the training you have received here so that the rest of the world will know of the esteem in which you hold Holbrook High School. WILLIAM T. BUCKLEY Principal 6 T o the Members of the Class of 1 966: May 1 extend to you every wish for your future happiness and success. To bring luck your way, try these re cipes for a day: 1 . They have shown us the far horizons of knowledge and how to achieve these horizons. They have illus- trated their interest in us by organizing and super- vising our various extra-curricular activities. They have coached us and counseled us. They have pleased and punished us all with equal fairness. They have shown to us the road to our future and have pointed out its detours and its pitfalls. With such guidance as they have given, how can we fail. MR. JOHN SPILLANE Happiness is everything coming out even Steven. MR. IRWIN COHEN Eyes off the keyboard. 9 ceiet MR. There is something to appeal to the interests of almost all students. The Bulldog Bulletin and the Echo furnish an oppor- tunity for those with literary ambitions to take part in the publication of material connected with the school. Not only do those who are inclined to the more tech- nical aspects of the newspaper world. Typists and tech- nicians of various sorts may also find a place with the two publications of the school. For those who intend to continue in business, medi- cine or teaching will find their place in the Medical Career Club, the Business Club, or the Future Teach- ers Club. In these organizations one can learn more about the field in which their interest lies through lec- tures, field trips and discussion. The Chess club, The Rifle Club, and the Math Club offer the opportunity for many to pursue the path that leads to their goal. The Student Council is made up of students who are elected by their fellow students. These Student Council members help the administrators to govern the school. They are the representatives of the students. It is through the Student Council that the student sees the workings of the democratic system at work on his own level. Intelligence and the wisdom to use it widely is re- quired for membership in the National Honor Society. The students who achieves this honor has much to be proud of. The teachers of Holbrook High School are always willing to undertake the formation of any activity for the benefit of the students. If enough students evince interest and this interest is continued then the activity is usually started. This motto shows the deep realization of the attitude which we approached our high school life. Now as we end the high school part of our life and verge on the brink of the world, we should look back for a moment before we look to the future. In order to prepare for the future, we were provided with the opportunities to be adequately readied for whatever we were to do after high school. I would publicly like to thank the faculty for their efforts in behalf of our class. We realize that we received from each course that which we put into each course. We had sufficient chance to prepare ourselves for our future. Throughout our high school careers we worked as a class in many activities in order to have a senior week we would remember. During our four years at Hol- brook High School we have been extremely fortunate to have the best for class advisors. Heading our class advisors is Mr. Mahanor. During our stay here he has worked long, hard hours for the success of our class. We deeply appreciate his diligent efforts. The class advisors also have worked hard for our class and we appreciate their efforts. They include Miss Reilly, Miss Ridge, Miss Stevens, Mr. Sikorsky, Mrs. Wood and Mr. Hayes. We have penned our last essays, written our last term paper, and taken our final test. We have finished all our class activities and now look to the future. We graduate knowing we are prepared for our future whether it be higher education or work. We look to the future remembering, “The future belongs to those who prepare for it.” 77 WILLIAM BUCKLEY Class President Advisors Miss Maureen Reilly Miss Susan Stevens Miss Barbara Ridge Mr. Donald Mahanor. head advisor Mr. Stanley Sikorsky Top Row: Bruce McNamee, Thomas Donnelly, Eileen Sullivan.
