Our wagon has been hitched to a most remarkable star, and to show our true, heartfelt appreciation for the help and cooperation you have given us, would be impossible. You began your teaching career here in 1924, and in the thirty-two years since your inauguration, you have played a vital port in the history of Sumner High. Your sphere of influence has been ond will continue to be great. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, which serves as background to your patience and understanding, you have guided us through these four memorable high school years, May the future find us all attempting to live up to those high standards you set for us. 3 and o o o For over six years Mr. Gilgan has been serving the Towns of Holbrook and Avon in his capacity as superintendent of schools. Since January of this year, however, due to the rapid growth in our schools, we have been privileged to have him adminis- tering to the Holbrook system alone. As supervisor and administrator of all the schools in Holbrook, he is kept constantly on the run by his many and varied duties, which include everything from the plan- ning for our new school to the scheduling of polio shots. High Carroll Gilgan is a man of vision. His intense devotion to the growth and education of Holbrook's youth and his un- tiring efforts on our behalf merit him the praise and admiration of our community. GARLAND L. NEAL-The guiding light of Sumner High. He's a hard man to convince in an argument and we'lI never forget those fiery debates in Problems. His deep interest in the pleasures and problems of Sumner makes him an able administrator and help- ful friend. His patience and quiet understanding are qualities we all admire. FRANCIS S. RODDY- Aren't there any scientists in this genera- tion? That's our own Mr. Roddy bemoaning the fact that no one seems to understand the finer things in life. Although his subiects of science, physics, chemistry, and biology confuse us, we love him for his patience, understanding, and cooperation. PETER A. BIZINKAUSKAS-His English classes are highlighted with that same enthusiasm and humor which sparked the pro- duction of our yearbook. He gave a great deal of time and sage advice to our staff, and we sincerely thank him for the blood, sweat, toil, and tears that helped to make our yearbook a success. :six W t 4704! 4 'Y x ?-umew S. Whether a student wishes to follow a college or commercial course at Holbrook High, he finds a cooperative faculty which is interested in the development of each and every student. In tour years of study he is prepared with all the courses he will find useful on entering the business world or a college or university. With the movement to the new high school, Holbrook was able to improve on its curriculum by the addition of a shop program tor the boys and a more advanced course in the domestic arts. Three individual labora- tories and a well equipped art room make the study ot art and science more interesting and complete, while the well stocked library is also a valuable addition to our curriculum. Lost year our yearbook won an honorable mention award in competition with hundreds ot yearbooks throughout New England, and we expect to make an even better showing at the N.E.S.P.A. Convention ot l956. In order to keep up with the academic and activity growth in the new school, the Echo is a much larger book with more complete coverage ot academics, sports, clubs, and achieve- ments. We sincerely hope we have presented to the senior class an accurate and complete record ot their tour years at Hol- brook and Sumner High Schools, and that this book will forever serve as an open door to pleasant memories. The entire statt extends to Mr. Bizinkauskas their most sin- cere thanks. He gave a great deal ot his time and effort tc making this publication a success. 36 I ll imtmlftu Editorial Board: Mary Kelleher, Literary Editor, Nancy Ferrini, Editor-in-chief, Ann Barbour, Art Editor: Ronald Dinning, Assistant Editor Patricia Norton, Typing Editor. Don, Ethel, and Ron help produce the magazine. The Bulldog Bulletin was written, illustrated, and produced en- tirely by the students under the direction of Mr. Bizinkauskas and Ivlrs. Roberts, advisers. Holbrook High's magazine was formerly entitled the Snoops and Scoops, but was renamed the Bulletin two years ago following a change in the staff and policy of the magazine. Last year, in competition with many other school magazines throughout New England, our publica- tion received an honorable mention at the New England Schol- astic Press Convention, to which we sent three delegates. The addition of an activity room in the new high school greatly benefited the work of the Bulletin. 37 I Ill SEATED: M. Chase, J. Hunter, R. Kraus, President, L. Thomson, B. White. SECOND ROW: R. Representatives are elected by each class to represent it, and Mr. McCallum is adviser to the group. The Student Council works on projects which will improve the school in some way. Recent aquisition ot a trampoline and a movie camera are represent- ative of these projects. Currently, a portable high fidelity set is the goal. ln earning money for these projects, however, the Student Council does even more tor the students. The pro- gram of dances, assemblies, and sports events sponsored by this group is an impressive one. The Student Council's duties also include representing the school at various functions and acting as a representative of the student body when decisions are to be made con- cerning it. In all this work, the Student Council finds enjoyment and satisfac- tion at having helped their school. I I I N SEATED: E. Stewart, P. Marble, N. Ferrini, C. Mclnnis, P. Norton, B. Parrotta, P.
