BOYS’ BASKETBALL First Row: David Peat, Donald White, Charles Nelson, Capt. Ronald MacLean, Dennis Barry Second Row: Coach Wade Hooker, Robert Iveson, Myron Winders. Howard Anderson, Charles Lincoln, Manager. A thrilling basketball season tor Sumner High in “54” was concluded by winning both the Mayflower League and Class B South Shore Title. Coach Wade Hooker’s team had the height and experience to top their opponents. Led by Captain “Chic” Nelson and Den Barry, the boys were hard to beat. Dennis, the highest scorer on the South Shore, topped the ranks with a grand total of 547 points for the season. Our Sumnerites started off strongly against Norton, but in meeting with our traditional rival, the Easties, we bowed, due to the tempor- ary loss of Den Barry. Then, for a quick come- back, we went on a winning spree that lasted until our final game against Wareham in the semi-final playoff to make the Tech Tourna- ment. During this surge, we conquered East Bridgewater three successive times and thus more than atoned for the one defeat suffered at its hands.
