CCMMANDI G CJFFICER Commander Clement Ward was born in Queens, New York. After attending public schools on Long Island he graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and was commissioned through NROTC in May of 1969. He is a 1979 graduate of the College of Command and Staff, U.S. Naval War College, Newport, R.I. and received an MS in financial management in 1985 from the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California. His first sea duty was as First Lieutenant and DASH Officer then Weapons Officer in USS VAN VOORHIS CDE 10283. Following a tour as commissioning Weapons Officer aboard USS KIRK CFF 10877, he served as an instructor in material management and tactics at the Surface Warfare Officers School Detachment, Coronado. This tour was followed by assignment as commissioning Operations Officer aboard USS ROANOKE CAOR 77. He then served as Commanding Officer of USS CONSTANT CMSO 4271 from April of 1980 to March of 1982, and Executive Officer of USS GOLDSBOROUGH CDDG 201. Prior to assuming command of USS HOEL CDDG 131 in February of 1983, Commander Ward was assigned duty in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Surface Warfare KO?-303. Commander Ward's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and various campaign and service medals. Commander Ward is married to the former Linda Hesse of Tulare, California. They reside in Coronado, California, with their daughters, Chanelle and Stacy, both high school students. The Wards also have a daughter, Elizabeth, attending college.
