DANIEL L. ARNOLD LIECITENANT COIVIIVIANDER, UNITED STATES NAVY Lieutenant Commander Daniel L. Arnold was born in North Rome, Pennsylvania. Enlisting in the Navy in January 1971, he received basic training. at San Diego, California. He served in USS HOLLAND QAS 321 and USS SIMON LAKE QAS 331 as a Navigation Electronics Technician. Selected for the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program in 1973, he attended Purdue University, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Physics and was commissioned in 1976. He reported to USS ENGLAND QCG 221 as Main Propulsion Assistant, completing two deployments to the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. Studying at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California, he received both a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and the advanced degree Electrical Engineer. In 1983 and 1984 he taught Electrical Engineering at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York and then attended Department Head School. He served two years in Japan as Engineer Officer in USS COCHRANE KDDG 211. In October 1986, Lieutenant Commander Arnold reported aboard USS FOX KCG 331, as Engineer Officer, completing a deployment to the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. He reported aboard USS HOEL QDDG 131 on 6 September 1988 and assumed duties as Executive Officer. Lieutenant Commander Arnold's decorations include: Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and assorted Unit Commendations. He is married to the former Nancy Root of Sayre, Pennsylvania. They have two children, Jai and Carrie, and reside in Poway, California.

SPRINGER MASTER CHIEF IVIACHINIST'S IVIATE, UNITED STATES NAVY MMCMISWJ Donald J. Springer, was born in Coosbay, Oregon. Enlisting in the Navy in 1965, he received basic training at San Diego, California. He reported aboard USS TICONDEROGA CCVA-141, where he advanced to Machin- ist's Mate Third Class in July of 1969. Reenlisting aboard TICONDEROGA, he then transferred to Service School Command, Naval Training Command, San Diego. Following rate training, he reported aboard USS NASHVILLE CLPD- 13J in March of 1970, where he achieved the rank of Machinist's Mate Second Class. , A tour of duty at Naval Station, San Diego, from February of 1972 to May of 1974, led him to USS TOWERS IDDG-95, where he reenlisted and advanced to First Class Petty Officer. He served in USS DENVER QLPH-9J from May of 1975 to June of 1979. There, he achieved the rank of Machinist's Mate Chief. He served at Fleet Training Group, San Diego, from July of 1979 to June of 1982, reenlisting on 14 June 1982, and achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He then reported to the Navy Management System Support Office Detachment, Pacific, where he advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer on 16 April, 1985. He served in USS ALAMO CLSD-33D as Command Master Chief until December 1988, reporting to USS HOEL QDDG-13J on 4 January, 1989. MMCMQSWJ Springer wears the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with gold star, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal fSix Awardsj, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Cas part of FTG, Pacificj. He is married to the former Christine Elizabeth Ward of Flint, Michigan, and resides in San Diego, California. They have two children, Michelle Lee and Jill Elizabeth.
