Capfain Oliver is married To The former Mariella Barron of Haddonfield, New Jersey. They have Two children, Mariio l9l, and Jim l6l. CAPTAIN JAMES D. OLIVER JR USN Captain Oliver Commander Destroyer Division TWELVE, was born in Birmingham, Alabama. After raduating from high school, he attended the University of Alabama and Marion Military Q Academy for one year prior to being appointed to the Naval Academy in 1939 as a Midship- man. Upon graduating from the academy and receiving his commission as Ensign in June 1942, he reported aboard U.S.S. CRAVEN lDD-382l and participated in the South and Central Pacific Naval Campaign from Guadacanal in November 19-424 to the Philippines in October 1944. During the latter part of the war, he served in the Atlantic aboard U.S.S. MCDOUGAL lAG-l26l, Since the vvar, Captain Oliver has served as Commanding Officer' of U.S.S. LST-601, U.S.S. CURRIER lDE-7001 and U.S.S. WEDDERBURN lDD-684l. He has also had duty in Washington, D-C- where he served as aide to the Chief of Naval Personnel, and at tl .5.
