Carl Benn was chosen honorary captain for the team. He used his heighth to great advantage on both offense and defense. He became more aggressive as the season pnr gressed, making most of his points on lay-up shots. Leigh NcQuarrie, probably the best shot in the League, was high scorer for the team. Because of his ability, the opposing teams always threw their best defensive man against him, which of course, handicapped him. Henry Whited, our rugged good-natured guard, was auaof the best rebounders in the League. Henry never lost his temper during the season and was very coachable. Donald Oliver, tall Sophomore guard, was later conver ted to center He was a hard fighting player both on off ense and defense His teamwork was excellent Jack Toner, a Sophomore, gave his test in all games Two more years of experience will do a great deal forlnm Carroll Hand is a Freshman and never touched a basket ball before this season Developing very fast, he became aggressive and cool headed, showing a great future ahead Kenreth Knowles, Manager, could always be dependedupmi to do all the odd Jobs that must be done for the team Our team was under the capable coaching of Principal Kenneth Sharp, who has done an excellent Job producing a team that tied for secord in the Katahdin Valley Leagn we were chosen to play off with Ledway for a place in the Eastern Maine Tourrament The game was canceled, however, because of four ingured players point in a play off game with Cakfield for the Presque Isle Tournament lost by one All in all we feel as though we have had a very succ essful season, and wish to thank our coach, cheerleaders, manager, student body, and the townspeople for theirloyd support llllr K ,tt es 0 46-fa, -ff, w 92 I r 4 V bi it 1. e . The only teams to hold double wins over Hodgdon were Danforth and Merrill. Our girls were the only team to win a victory over Limestone. We placed second in the Katahdin Valley League. The cooperation of team work in the squad was superb. The girls scored 547 points during the season, while their opponents scored 416. This showed the gmuds did a fine job holding down their opponents. Captain Ruth Neal was elected captain at the end of the year. She was at a disadvantage because of her heighth, but this did not hinder her from being an excellent pasan. Her cooperation with the rest of the team was excellent. She scored 103 points. Barbara Bickford, like the rest of the guards, was put at a disadvantage by her heighth Her interest in the success of the team, rather than her own success, made her an invaluable player Elaine Estabrook used her heighth to great advantage, scoring 207 points, mostly on rebounds She could play both guard and forward positions with equal skill Rowena Taylor, Sophomore, has been playing varsity ball all year She was an excellent 'one hand shotn and set up many plays from the center Her foul shooting proved valuable in many games She scored a total of 192 points, Bunny Toner is the shortest girl on the team but one of the best rebounders because of her ability to time the re She was one of the fastest of the guards, and her teamwork was outstanding bounds Pat Field, probably the most aggressive player on the team is also a Sophomore She wasn't afraid of broken bones or floor burns Her passing was unusually good Rowena Higgins, a Freshman, was a varsity substitute She played some time in practically every game She was an excellent shot with plenty of pep and should prove to be a reliable player during the next three years 91 'L' S' 1 V3 -f'g 'sm il 1 1 'lx 92 4 I 1 '71 as s 'V .Q Q ' - If . It was decided at the first meeting that each member was to pay twenty-five cents for dues. With this money, nmwrecord albums were purchased. Among them, were albums by Glenn Miller, Wayne King, and Tommy Dorsey. During the winter months we were unable to hold many danc- ing classes because of basketball practice, but this spring they are in full swing again. Under the direction of Miss Jellison, everyone has learned the waltz step. Now the begin- ners are acquiring rhythm and smoothness in waltzing, while the more experienced dancers are fox-trotting. We have quite a few jitterbugs in our midst, too We all enjoy dancing classes and have gained confidence going on the floor at the school dances we still wish Miss Jellison would let us have a square darce occasionally though' SPEAFING EXHIBITION Our speaking exhibition was held on April 22 in the audit orlum An entertaining program was presented as follows The Little Tin Soldier , Betty Mason The Tooth, the :Vho e Tooth, and Nothing but the Tooth, Joanne Rafuse September vlorn , Pat Field The Garden Across the Street , Helen Be Solo by Rowena Higgins 'The End of a Perfect Weekend , Gert rude Mason Will1e's Dress Suit , Ethel Gerow The Least of These , Jo Ann Barton nlncorrigible Catherine Carr The speaxers were coached by the faculty Betty Mason was chosen to represent the school in the Spear Contest JUN IOR SEN IOQ BAN QUET An excellent dinner was served by the Methodist Ladies Aid to the guests present at the Junior Senior Banquet which was held on April 24 The tables were attractive with individual paper lacegdace ettings, centerpieces of garden flowers and white candles i 1 Q I Q' so I 1,5 'S . 7,14 5-3 A I tp I I Vs A 1.
