The year has been a special one for me as I have watched you seventh, eighth and ninth graders grow academically and socially. As you ninth graders move to Northwest and North, I wish for each of you a successful and enjoyable high school experience. I will have fond memories of the ninth grade class, and I will miss all of you. I will look forward to working together with our returning students in the fall of '84. Qs, I X...-1 Dear Students, As ninth graders, you will be the first class that has gone through Hocker Grove during my tenure as principal. You've been an excellent class. You should be proud of yourselves. We are proud of you. You will do well as individuals at North and Northwest. As eighth graders the staff has watched you mature and grow. You may have difficult shoes to fill as a class next year, but you will fill those shoes as well, if not better, than what the ninth grade class has done. You will be the school's leaders. I know you will take that responsibility seriously and do a good job for yourselves and Hocker Grove. As seventh graders you may be preparing yourselves next year to enter North or North- west as ninth graders. Your task may be the most difficult of all next year. You will have to make a big effort to grow. I know that you can do what is necessary to prepare for your high school experience. Have a w nd summe ! We will be looking forward to seeing you seventh and eighth graders for the 19 5 school ear. For the ninth grade, I wish you nothing but the best! Best,vl1ishes,fl rlnclpal xr 'vt 1 blillqlfuegef

Dr. Raj Chopra Dr. Reese Pollard Superintendent of Schools N. W. Area Superintendent The great essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, What we call results are beginnings. ' l couldn't agree with him more. The 1983-84 school year saw many results from students and staff in the Shawnee Mission Public Schools, but those achievements and accomplishments are really just the beginnings of what l'm sure will be a continued thrust for educational excellence. Looking back over the past year, I have been impressed with the enthusiastic commitment Hocker Grove students and staff have had to achieving excellence in academics and activities. Equally impressive has been the support parents have shown and their willingness to become true partners in education with their school. Next year promises some challenges as we face the prospect of reorgan- izing to four-year high schools and two-year middle schools, a change that will affect Hocker Grove in 1985. With that reorganization will come many opportunities for Hocker Grove students, staff and parents: opportunities to explore new horizons, to benefit from expanded opportunites, to use the results of this years's achievements as a solid foundation for new beginnings Knowing this makes me confident that next year will also be a year of achievement, pride and unity among students, parents and staff as together we strive for continued excellence in education. With fond regards, GW.. Raj Chopra, Superintendent
