s one mentions the name Nola Kenning, dedication and warmth of character come to mind. A teacher for thirty-one years at Hockaday, Mrs. Kenning has seen students through Russian History, World History, Ev- ropean History, Sociology, and Social Problems. Seeing her smiling in the hallways or chatting with a student, one perceives the dedication that extends beyond the classroom. Hav- ing served in the past as the Cor- nerstones’ sponsor for over twenty years, the community service spon- sor, and sponsor of the foreign stu- dent committee, Mrs. Kenning has given so much of her time and of herself. She is involved and has shared her interests from piano to ice-skating which have manifested themselves in chapels to workshops over the years. Through these many accomplishments, one does not ex- pect the modesty that comprises her character. As one faculty member said of her, ‘She has a wonderful sense of humor but in a quiet way.”’ It is this quiet manner that speaks with sincerity and genuine compas- sion for others. It is with gratitude that the senior Class of 1988 and the editorial staff of Cornerstones dedicate this year’s Cornerstones to one who has gone far above the level of respected to achieve the level of excellence.
