' 2- . N 'Y' , activities, special talents are discovered. As Middle School students gain maturity, they have more challenges and a wider range of academic subjects. Students are exposed to fine arts in choir, ceramics, art, and music. They learn self-reliance, and they continue to develop their special talents. i In Upper School, the options for growth are almost limitless. Guid- ed by their advisors, girls plan their courses of study themselves and explore new academic and extra-curricular areas. From world history to biology, field hockey to voice, girls sample many different areas. Once a girl recognizes her talent, she may go as far as her skills allow. Whether her interest if -X 'A L1 is in foreign language or student government, she is encouraged to set high goals. Hockaday wants students to learn about themselves and to grow into well-rounded in- dividuals. The sooner a girl iden- tifies her talents, the sooner she may refine them through her ac- tivities inside and outside of school.

Each part of the curriculum is designed to develop a specific part of the total student. Teachers are interested in the growth of their students, they not only teach girls how to study, but they also train them to think for themselves. The special individualized care that ,Q each plant receives facilitates student growth. When trouble occurs, a faculty gardener nurtures the student with special care. The willingness of faculty to give of their time is an important feature of l-lockaday. The curriculum is designed to promote well-rounded growth. In Lower School, painting, reading, math, singing, French or Spanish, and physical fitness are the staples of the curriculum. Through these
