The Hockaday Crest Miss Hockaday had the crest designed for the school during its first years. It was originally very ornate. Over the years though, it has been simplified and as a result there have been several bad versions for the sake of simplicity. a The crest has come to symbolize Hockaday. The Latin inscription, Virtus a Hockaday Scientia, courage by means of knowledge, embodies what Hockaday stands for. Now the crest is used on much of the Hockaday paraphernalia. It can be seen on items ranging from sweatshirts to the flag on Graduation Terrace. Regardless of where the crest is, it will always be a symbol of what Hockaday students are striving for.
