The Hockaday Ring The Hockaday Ring was first seen in 1918. It was designed by Miss Hockaday and Tiffany’s. The Ring was originally awarded to girls on Ring Day who had achieved high merit in citizenship and character. In the mid ‘50’s this tradition was changed. It was then awarded to all Forth Form girls and 10% of the Third Form. It was assumed that all Forth Formers had achieved these high standards and deserved the Ring. The 10% of the Third Form were chosen by the faculty as an honor. Now the Ring is worn only by the girls in the Forth Form. It is awarded during a ceremony in May of the Junior year. The Hockaday Crest Miss Hockaday had the crest designed for the school during its first years. It was originally very ornate. Over the years though, it has been simplified and as a result there have been several bad versions for the sake of simplicity. a The crest has come to symbolize Hockaday. The Latin inscription, Virtus a Hockaday Scientia, courage by means of knowledge, embodies what Hockaday stands for. Now the crest is used on much of the Hockaday paraphernalia. It can be seen on items ranging from sweatshirts to the flag on Graduation Terrace. Regardless of where the crest is, it will always be a symbol of what Hockaday students are striving for. The crest is now used in the Hockaday letterhead. SGLISCIOF The official crest of The Hockaday School 4 fia « ys ¢ d Ui . ‘ » . ra f oe, ‘ He ° 7 Ft . ah oN . | ade! CIM 8 BEN Ly tee A, Me ee nt ee. The Hockaday Uniform Through the Ages The first uniform was a white middy blouse with a green tie and bloomers. The 1940's brought about a change in the uniform. The girls now wore a white shirt and either a wool or cotton green skirt. Currently there are different uniforms for various grades. Lower School students wear a white shirt and a green jumper. Middle School students and Up- per School underclassmen wear a plaid or green skirt, a white blouse and a green blazer. When a Hockaday student becomes a senior, they are allowed the coveted honor of the white blazer with their uniform.
