For these reasons and many more, the Class of 1973 proudly salutes Dr. Wal- ter Lambert. Now concluding his second year as headmaster, Mr. Glenn Ballard has become a familiar face around campus. In addi- tion to many new and exciting changes in the curriculum and school calendar, Mr. Ballard has brought with him to Hoc- kaday a friendliness and open concern for each student. Involved in education for the past seventeen years, Mr. Ballard taught at the Kiske School in Pennsylvania, serv- ing as Chairman of the Math Department and Director of Studies. Following that, he spent two years as Head of Upper School at Garland Country Day School in Den- ver. Mr. Ballard then served as Headmaster of the Brownell- Talbot School in Omaha for four years before coming to Hockaday. Our Headmaster holds a B.A. degree in Chemis- try and Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters degree in Math from the University of Denver. Mr. Ballard is very enthusi- astic about Hockaday and its students. He is eager to apply hard work and total involve- ment to create what he feels can be a fine future for Hock aday. 41 ..-ff 2 ew Hockaday Continues to BeneHt from the Skilled Leadership of Mr. Glenn Ballard. 1- , - :Mfr MM r 1 ,xi lu .X J Q 2 E 'M 24 Mr Wagnon Serves a Productive Third Year as Principal of the Upper School Helping young people solve problems is David Wagnon's favorite part of his job at Hoc- kaday. Mr. Wagnon came to Hockaday's Science Depart- ment ten years ago, later becoming Head of that depart- ment, and accepting the posi- tion of Upper School Principal in 1970. Mr. Wagnon holds a Bachelor of Science degree from S.M.U. and a Bachelor of Education from N.T.S.U. In his three years as princi- pal, Mr. Wagnon has continu- ally shown interest in every student and their problems. He has introduced many improve- ments and innovations to the Upper School, and maintains his involvement with the Sci- ence Department by teaching a physics class. Niles has expanded and improved its programs. This year there have been numer- ous field trips. Among these were a fourth grade trip to sing Christmas carols, and even more exciting, a sixth grade trip to Williamsburg. New classes were also formed, a sixth grade Drama class and in the eighth grade, a Compar- ative Language course in which all of the Romance lan- guages as well as German were compared. An activities period was created which pro- vided an opportunity for spe- cial speakers to come and talk to the children. The Primary grades have also had special shows where speakers were invited to come and talk. Per- haps one of the most success- ful projects was a Christmas drive to help aid the Indians. This certainly has been a year crowded with unforgettable memories, friendships, and good times. MRS. IAMES BRYANT L. S. Secretary ,1f -.S MRS. NEDRA A. NILES Principal English Department lx MRS. C. THE LAKEWAY WORLD 0F TENNIS. There is a growing echelon of people these days who think tennis is just about as important as anything in their world. For them, THE LAKEWAY WORLD OF TENNIS is intended. World Championship Tennis and Alpert Corporation had one purpose in mind for THE LAKEWAY WORLD OF TENNIS: to create the world's finest private tennis club, No cost has been spared, no comfort sacrificed, nothing neglected. The clubhouse, for example, a three-level structure, will wrap itself around two indoor courts. Outside is the stadium court which can expand to seat 8,500 spectators for top tournaments. Twelve outdoor courts are scattered around the clubhouse. From the glass enclosed dining room and bar, members and guests will have a view of the indoor courts, stadium or club courts, or the breathtaking Texas Hill Country. Take the townhouses in the Tennis Village. The first concept of its kind in the world. Each townhouse will have access to its own tennis court, and residents will have a view of the courts from bay windows of the living rooms. All two, three and four bedroom units are equipped with General S Electric appliances -even a washer and dryer. A choice of four custom interiors by Ann Musgrave. A wet bar in the living room. Refrigerators and barbeque grills on the patios. The countryside at Lakeway, 18 miles west of Austin has been compared to that of the Mediterranean, especially the high cliffs overlooking Lake Travis. All the - water sports are available. Golf, riding, even a private air strip. What more could a tennis player want? Beautiful environment. Luxurious atmo- sphere. Keen or kind competi- tion, whatever level your game. V , 1 gi F55 1:--Efwqh ' J., 20 A Special Dedication Earlier in the year, several members of the Senior Class and the members of the Cornerstones staff decided that they wished to show their immense appreciation to the yearbook's sponsorg the question was how. Therefore, as editor of the 1972-1973 Corner- stones, I took the liberty to include a very special dedication to our sponsor, Mrs. M. E. Kenning. As sponsor, Mrs. Kenning checks every page, helps the staff with layout procedures, and gives up a good deal of her free time working out the many problems which arise every year concerning the yearbook's production. Without her help, there would not be such a fine yearbook. For these rea- sons and many more, I, Donna Curry, the 1972-1973 Cornerstones staff, and the Senior Class show our gratitude with this special dedication to Mrs. M. E. Kenning.
